Hi
I am nearly finished fitting a replacement clutch master cylinder. To do a full replacement rather than fit new innards requires a removal of the brake master cylinder and moving the brake servo aside. I have done that but for next time(!!) could make the last bit easier if I could remove the drive rod from the passenger side. I cant find an exploded diagram as servos aren't user serviceable. Does anyone know if removing the outer circlip and filter bung, followed by the inner circlip and spring, would release the long drive rod with 'eye'? Would this leave everything else still in place and not likely to be lost inside the servo?

I recently changed my brake master cylinder.
And I've read your post a few times... I would live to help but I really don't know what your asking.

My own reply was not too clear....

Your thread says brake servo... You mention having to move it but are you enquiring about dismantling the brake master cylinder or the clutch master cylinder.

You cannot dismantle the brake master cylinder in situ( I thought it were possible but on removal it was blatant that it was not... Big nut with a big punch hole in it locking it to threaded section)

Hi Marty
Thanks for the response. To remove the clutch master cylinder and fit a new one you first have to remove the brake master cylinder, then move the brake servo to one side to gain access to the two nuts holding the clutch master cylinder to the bulkhead. It isn't the best FIAT design as I can't see why the clutch master cylinder couldn't have been fitted from the inside using welded nuts instead of welded bolts.
I have done the job now but moving the brake servo out of the way was difficult as the rod with eye which attaches to the pedal is so long. I was wondering if this could be first removed from inside the car. I am glad I didn't have to swap the brake servo as that entails lowering the engine!!

Ok I understand now... I'm certain a few here have replaced clutch master cylinders before but I don't recall hearing about your endeavours!!!

The rod end that connects to the brake pedal is easily disconnected but I'm not sure that alone is sufficient to move the servo enough to reveal the nuts your trying to access.

Come on folks.., help out here!!

Marty.

Hi
People usually just replace the piston and spring from inside the car! I am hoping someone with a faulty Multipla servo on the bench can confirm, or not, that the whole rod on the back of the brake servo can be removed. I have completed the job now but am writing a do-it article and can see that moving the servo to one side about 20cm would be much easier if the rod could be removed!
When you have disconnected the eye from the pedal and have removed the rubber dust cover you gain access to a circlip retaining the inner dust plug. Removing this you see another circlip and return spring. I didn't want to try with the servo in position because if anything fell inside the servo I wouldn't have been able to recover it.....

I disconnected from pedal thinking it was necessary for master cylinder removal... It wasn't so I reattached and unfortunately can't help you on this occasion!!!
I must look at my own as it seems crazy to have to remove brake mc to get at clutch mc bolts...
