Hi everyone, hope you are all well im new to the site and would really appreciate some advice.
To a long story short my van axillary belt snapped on our journey home from leeds.. i installed a new axillary belt, fully charged the battery, but the van will not start.
I noticed a yellow light with a padlock sign on the dash.. could this have anything to do with the van not starting? Ie locking diesel pump?.

Kind regards Mick2007

Hi Mick :)

Yes.. it is immobilised

2 causes for that..

Vehicle wiring issue.. possible to to a flailing belt.. I had one yank a lead out before.. :(

Or

The chip in the key isnt being read
Have you tried both keys?

Tell us more..

Charlie

Hi Charlie, ive checked for loose cables/ wires.. they all look connected.
When the van broke down the hazard lights completely drained the battery, could this be the cause?

Well.. its possible..

But the CODE system is run through an ECU

SO should be reliable enough

Worth removing the battery negative lead for a few minutes..
that will make it 'forget' current stuff and revert to its factory presets

Once powered back up the 'reboot' may well get things back on track

Let us know what you find.. :)

Hi Charlie, so i disconnected the negative cable.. left it off for a while.
I put the negative cable back on... tried the key and the padlock warning symbol is stiĺl on the dash.
Van still not starting...hmmmm :(

Ok..

Well it was a simple test

Right.. so key chips..

The key itself has a chip in the plastic..
this is read by an aerial around lock barrel

Which then has a cable going under the dash

Something in that chain isnt working correctly.. have you tried a 2nd key ?

Any help? It says 2.2 but 2.3 is same.

Perhaps it has got corrupted and needs connecting to the examiner system using the code on the key card to reinitialise it?

Thanks :)

Be nice to rule out the easy stuff before towing it to a dealer..

Actually on my 2007 car ..a grande punto..

The service key was missing and a locksmith 1/4 mile from the house plugged into OBD socket.. and got the code from the car itself

So IF the OP. has no second key to try

This @£60 key might be worth a shot..

Hi charie/ Rayc... i have a second key and ive tried them both to no avail.
I will have a look at the ignition barrel today :) ill let you know how i get on.

Regards Mick

Was it recovered by a 3rd party

Sometimes moving the steering wheel rake adjuster can tug the wiring enough to cause issues..
BUT. If you havent moved it.. don't ;)

There is a possibilty that the battery draining with the hazards on set: triggered some 'failure mode' in a device that had its power slowly drained.

So.. to recap :
Is the battery definitely fine.. still spinning motor well..?

100% sure the belt damaged no wiring

(How did you replace the belt?)

Mick, I've been having immolbiliser problems for over a year! Ours is a 05 2.8jtd
Anyway take the lower cover off under the steering wheel find the immolbiliser code box ours is white about 3 inches square you will see two multiplug one for the aerial around the ignition barrel other one is the code unit to ecu, pull the plug for a few seconds and replace it seems to reset the ecu, well it works on ours?

Hi all, so i charged the van battery ready to have another go.. i removed the cover underneath the stearing wheel, and a 2 pin connector on the ignition barrel was disconnected. (Possibly happened on recovery)
Re connected 2 pin connector... repaced cover.
Moment of truth... turned key and FINALLY the van started.:)
So thank you all very much for all your advice and knowledge.
This forum is great.. ive replaced the starter motor and auxiliary belt with help from this forum.
Gear box next :)
