Stupid question Anybody know what size the hexagon on the reverse light switch is. I want to remove it to fill the gearbox after draining it.I have tried all my sockets that I have.

Ok I seem to have a nack of answering my own questions. I could not find my 1/2 drive deep sockets. While trying diffrent sockets I noticed that there was plastic breather alongside the switch.I removed the top cap by lifting upwards. I then filled the gearbox with 2.8 ltrs Semi synthetic 70/90 gearbox oil (Capacity given in Autodata disc) Filling was a little slow but acces was ok if you remove the rubber hoses going to the airfilter.
The gearchange seems a lot lighter after the oilchange. But best of all I know the oil level is correct. Changed engine oil & filter as well.

Hi Ben Its a 2002 ducto maxi minibus (old shape) fitted with 2.8 non turbo Iveco engine. Just finished converting it to a campervan.Servicing it and checking everything before first big trip down to the South of France in 2 weeks.

Just thought I would resurrect one of these threads to do with replacing this revering switch because I found another issue revolving around the removal of the air filter housing.

I suppose enough has been written on how to deal with this job though clearly some threads have stopped as soon as the problem was either sorted out or accepted.

I asked my garage to this job whilst doing a service which included changing the gear box oil, I ended up getting the new switch in a packet along with the information that they didn't have enough time to fit the switch which is probably indicative of the difficulty removing and replacing.

Yesterday I removed those large hoses to the air filter housing and found that the three mounting rubbers/bolts/thingies had either sheered-off or had been purposely broken. No-one else seems to have-had this problem after reading just about every post to do with this subject.

So, here I am going through the same agony and looking for some moral support at a time I found my arms are far to short together with my fingers. Working through a letterbox was a good description.

Hello, I'm Richard. It's 2004 2.8 JTD under an A class bonnet which has to be the next level in yoga.

If you try to undo the nuts without holding the hex part underneath you can twist them off in the middle . That being said the rubbers in general in the newer vans are cack compared to the old ones I replaced the 2005 rubbers with the ones from a 1995 van. I've also used land rover ones which are about 10mm thicker.

I forgot to mention that I'd been searching for a rattle for two years and convinced it was inside the door, when I found the air-cleaner housing loose it was a deep sigh of relief.

Do those hoses need steel band clamping ? They don't appear to move even without anything around them. Zip-ties ?

Respect to anyone who has done this job in their drive, I'm going to have to get my garage to do it but at-least I'll be able to show them where the switch is.

My arms and fingers just aren't long enough, I can't even get to undo that bracket in front of the switch.

Good news is, I won't have the air-filter housing bouncing around in future so thats another rattle sorted-out. I just don't understand why anyone would want to remove that air-filter housing unless they were trying to do what I have been trying to do and the mangled rubbers suggest these have been damaged some time ago.

And finally, this forum has been a fantastic resource for information on this project.
