Hi guys I have a Fiat Ducato Maxi 2019 2.3 multijet II (130) and since I changed the fuel filter the van have this episodes of loss of power, black smoke and engine light one. If a turn the engine off and then on again will be normal until when going above 2000 rpm or going uphill. After a few episodes the mecanic change a fuel regulator valve and a new diesel filter … no changes, still the same. Any thoughts on that?
Thank you all very much.

As a rough guide on a diesel black smoke indicates to much fuel for the amount of air/oxygen, so if nothing else changed I would look towards an air leak or loss of turbo pressure on the intake side, could be a split hose or even just a hose clip loose.

Hi, so I don’t really know to be honest! This morning what shows up was the EGR blocked and the fuel rail pressure sensor! He says changing the EGR will fixed all, I don’t know really I just have to trust the guy

If some dirt got through when fuel filter changed it may have clogged small second filter shown in video. Which can cause p0089 code.

You are right you have to deal with mechanic .

Especially as you dont know the codes .

Good luck

Please let us know how it gets fixed in the end.

I have no idea ...we don't have enough to go on.

An Egr valve stuck open causes ecu to receive a huge maf reading because the turbo is just blowing air straight through egr valve and out of exhaust - that will definately increase black smoke.

Garage has replaced fuel pressure related part and now hinting at pressure sensor.

So the last update is the EGR part came wrong so tomorrow afternoon the right one will arrive but I don’t think that will solve the problem, the Hight pressure fuel pump is visually completely rusty in a really bad state because of the salt. This Van have 251.000 miles done in 3 years most of the time in motorway to all Europe and UK, believe me drives like new and no major issues until now since the fuel filter was changed, don’t really understand, just bad luck I guess.

I have looked into the internal filter for this type of pump further.....
This filter may be filtering the fuel before it returns to the tank.
In the video a pressure gauge is used, I believe it may be teed into the line between the main filter and the hp pump.
Reading Over 6 bar pressure with blocked internal filter. About 4.5 bar after internal filter replaced.
It appears blocked internal filter may cause rail pressure to be higher than target pressure , enough to trigger p0089.

With a scan tool showing live data watching the desired fuel pressure and the actual pressure under the conditions that the fault occurs could indicate cause of problem.

Hi @jackwhoo , no news! the part didn't arrive today, they lost it and it was delivered elsewhere. I'm only aware of having 1 EGR and no Adblue. I've already ordered a new hight pressure fuel pump, the timing belt kit including the water pump and the fuel rail pressure sensor. So if it's not the EGR I'm prepared for the worst. Until Friday the latest I’m hopping to have news about what really happened with my Van.

Hi there
any update on this as i have same problem. We have changed timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, egr and still same.
going to check boost pipes as guys have stated in here. My issue only started after we had to renew Egr.

Hello!
I’m really sorry guys but I'm postponing it day by day to give you the outcome of my fiat Ducato problem, so I change:

EGR valve

fuel rail pressure sensor

Fuel pressure regulator

New Intercooler

An DPR Regeneration done

but in the end what solved it was changing the 4 injectors that were completely destroyed and then a new Fiat Ducato was born … 3 mecanic’s just the last one an Hungarian guy who is Mercedes specialist here in Bristol solve all the problems that I have for 4 months with all this kind of “mecanic’s. Now is like new even with nearly 270k miles.

Thanks for update @Antonio Julio
mines has only done 74,000 i also am suspecting Injectors, we built ours into a campervan and stupidly left her not used for weeks on end while converting.
ill keep you guys posted on our resolution.
