I was working on my car this weekend and after I reconnected the battery a cd in the CDC will play for a few seconds then stop followed by a message on the RADIO NAV RNS3 screen will appear saying something along the lines of "Note: A general CDC error"

It is the factory unit in a Punto mk2 2002 model CDC is the Fiat Blaupunkt IDC A09.

I should add thats Discs eject and insert ok.

Any ideas what it could be and how to fix it?

I have tried disconnecting and re connecting the battery and simply turning the radio on and off.

The radio does the usual voice message saying the maps have been loading after reconnecting the battery.

Thanks

Matthew

I've had one of these for some years now, as an aftermarket fit.
I've seen this on a couple of occasions. The unit gets upset if the battery is disconnected and the radio is on when the battery is reconnected. As you've found, it will probably sort itself out after a couple of on/off. If not, turn radio off, then disconnect battery. Reconnect, wait then turn radio on.

Can also be caused if CD is damp, or has collected dust. Remove all CDs, wipe them clean and reinsert.

If problem persists, the unit may need repair. Don't know where now, although Blaupunkt may be able to point you somewhere. The official repairer I've used in the past at Calne has disappeared.

Perfect! Massive thank you I'll give this a go as the message came back this morning. Now that I think of it I think the radio was still on so as you say it probably didn't like that.

Thanks again!

As I said above, the previous official repairer was based in Calne and knew all about these things. They repaired mine very quickly.

Found this: http://www.blaupunktdirect.co.uk/repairs.html
You might as well contact them with the details of your unit, see what they quote. Will probably be one of their fixed price jobs as it is a common fault message.

CD changers seem to be yesterday's news. I prefer mine to mp3s as the CDC gives a better quality sound. Technology moves on, and regardless of whether it is actually better, we have it forced upon us. Keep smiling.

So I managed to stop the previous error now I have a no magazine error!

I think it's had it :(

You sure it's an IDC-A09? that model doesn't have a magazine, just 5 slots for the 5 CDs.

Although it has no magazine, an error reading anything will show a fault that the head unit will interpret as "no magazine". Same connection can be used for the 10-disc unit with a magazine, head unit doesn't know what's on the other end.
