Hello,

In the process of purchasing a Fiat 600, unfortunately missing the engine, Spotted a Fiat Fiorino 88ish fitted with a 1372cc engine (Engine Code 146A5.000)
wondering had anyone fitted this to a 600 ?. Or am best to keep looking for something more suitable?.

Thanks

Is this a front engine into a rear engine car as if so you may find direction of rotation wrong, so faster backwards than forwards.:):):)

On my old 600D the engine rotated clockwise, as have all my other front wheel drive Fiat engines. The have all had the block on the left and gearbox on the right as you look into the engine bay from the front of the car.

Personally I've not seen a front wheel drive car with the block and gearbox the other way round.

Was it the 850 that had that issue?

Thanks to my Dad I have some data on the 850.

Not in a position to copy yet but it comes from:

"Societa Italiana Additivi"
"Per Carburanti S.p.A - S.I.CAc"
"data technici"
"delle autovetture"
"italiane"
"1977"

I also have the 1981 version with later Fiats.

Both items cover many makes such as Autobianchi, De Tomaso,Ferrari, Fiat, Lamborghi

I think I mentioned before my dad worked for Shell and Esso/Exxon as a lubrication (and other) specialist.

At one point in time he had a large fleet of 600s running various trials etc.

Then moved on to automatic transmission fluids for the likes of Borge Warner and of course vehicle manufacturers (BMW & others).

As a kid/younger adult I saw picture of picture in then high res of piston, bores, etc from all the testing. I guess every picture was associated with a specific test but to me then they were just lovely pictures with some reference number (no make / model /etc)

For many years I kept all oil charts, NGK books all my Uniparts catalogues with the cross references,Palgrave Technical Data books before AutoData came along, much old garage equipment oil cans, etc. just to use, though before it became valuable memoribilia I chucked it away.
Hindsite is a wonderful thing, like I should have bought the Amphicar for £65 in running order etc. in the 1970s.:(

The Fiat 850 rotated in the opposite direction to all the other 600/127 etc engines. It’s not difficult to sort out though. If you want to use an 850 engine in a 600 you just need to swap the cam and distributor that will make it turn the ‘right’ way
