fiat 500s subframe issue

Just been outside to look at mine, it's rusty, but imho not rusty enough for it to be an issue over the lifetime you'd expect the car to operate over. Strangely enough my Panda which is a 4x4 and a 56 plate (500 is a late 09 plate) is less rusty underneath. The suspension is similar to the 500's although the beam has been cut in two to create two trailing arms with a mount inboard of the spring cups for the droplink to connect to the anti-roll bar that the 4x4 has at the back.

I wouldn't think there'd be a difference between the disc and drum versions, I'd imagine the hubs would be designed such that they could both use the same rear beam.

ePer has different part numbers for the 1.2 beams, and as MEP says, if you have Xenons, the rear beam is different again.

You must be keen, it's brass monkey weather here just now.

Ah fantastic, I imagine the twinair 85 and multijet use the same beam as the 1.2? Did the multijet 95 get rear discs or was it just an upgrade to the front brakes.

I've put ePer away now that I've found Hezzer a part number for his beam - I wasn't really looking beyond what I needed to find for that, so can't say regarding the TA, other than it won't fit the 1.4. Took a while to make sure I'd not missed anything; as you said earlier, there was a revision to the beam late 2009 (possibly the handbrake cable brackets). If buying from a breakers, you need to be extra careful to make sure what you buy is going to fit!

Yeah. I'll have a look at my 500 and Panda again tomorrow and see if there are any obvious differences as the Panda has rear discs.

I'm very cautious of just going off part numbers as sometimes a part number can change for reasons other than incompatibility or a product improvement.

Re: Hi fiat 500 sport

Hi all just joined the site very nice might i add :). just picked up a fiat 500 from a private sale (for a very nice price) sport 2007 model 1.4. very nice to drive although once you hit a bump in the road you are still bouncing around about a mile down the road lol. i am 6ft 3 ish and love it. its my daughters car that i borrow a lot ;). the only problem i have with it is the rear shock cups can i get new ones to weld in or is it a whole new subframe if so what sort of prices are new or second hand ones or are there any equivalents i could use cheers all :)any adivse is very much appreciated

Welcome! :)
Rear shock cups?? Not sure of the part you are referring to.., unless you mean the part where the rear coil spring sits in the rear beam/axle and the shock absorber bolts on?

I don't know if ePer would include Abarth variants, but the A500 has a zero toe rear beam. If it were me that's the one I'd be looking for.

It,can be parts come from different suppliers but are essentially the same.

Punto rear beams are the same it's what bolts on either end that differs.

There may be some differences in torsional strength for heavier/sportier models.

That's really rotten though did this car love near the Coast or In the sea! My 2004 and my 2006 puntos have nothing like that on them. A 500 is at least 2 years newer again

Yes it does live by the sea. My campervan is in better shape and that was built in 1982. :)

it's funny because the corrosion is only on the passenger side.

UK nearside? In the gutter where all the crud inc salt gathers.

It'd suspect poor quality control or unfortunate road damage giving water an entry more than anything. Especially if both sides of the same car are different as it's small car not like the rear suspension units are a long way from each other.

Well it passed mot with some graft spent the day repairing damaged area. mot man was very pleased, there were no other problems with car. I got chance to get under it and I have to say, its rock solid even the other rear suspension cup looked solid. Will post some pics of repair. the car does not bounce around the road as much now. I was pretty impressed with it underneath. I wonder if it was just a dodgy undercoat in the factory :)
