Technical Fiat 500 1.2 2017 valve cover leak not from gasket

So further to my last, I won’t bore you with trying to get help from fiat ……AUS$1400 for a new plastic rocker cover.
So, I decided to drill the plug out but as soon as the drill grabbed the plug popped out. So I cleaned it up and used a engine gasket sealant on the first half (narrow part) and locktite prism (superglue) on the outer half. That seamed to do the trick but to be sure I plastic welded it together with a soldering iron and quality cable tie (YouTube has videos how). So far so good. Clocked up 200 km with no leaks. Even if you got a new rocker surely the problem would/could have happened again!
Well done fixing the issue it will probably last a lot longer than a new one anyway! I just can’t understand why they would use plastic!?! I suppose because it’s cheaper! False economy in the long run!

Weight reduction cost Also less prone to leaks then metals ones as they can make a better sealing edge/lip then metal

Allthrough I suspect coat and weight are the main reason

I dont think so, the metal and plastic ones will have a separate seal within them. The metal ones wont warp with time and heat.

Hi please can you show me a picture of a rocker cover for the 2017 fiat 500? Her garage has told her it’s split and needs replacing but quoted £400 as fiat will only issue a metal one. So we’re trying to source a second hand one but don’t know what it looks like!
Any help would be very much appreciated thanks

Look at picture in first post. The valve cover is the black plastic thing at top of photograph.

Does anybody know if the old alloy rocket cover can substitute the plastic one?
Is there anything against?

I wouldn't have thought so as I'm pretty sure some of the early euro 6 cars had the alloy one anyway, it's just Fiat cost cutting I think by them fitting plastic ones, I'll be changing to the old alloy one as soon as mine ever starts to give trouble

I’m dealing with this exact same issue. I’m curious to know, when you pulled the bung out, does it have a hole through the centre or just a recess on one side?

Same problem, oil leaking from the seal around the bung. Does it pop out without damaging? Or unscrew? Can’t afford £180 for a new cover

Well fiat are aware of the issue, but it's not a recall. Local dealership said the replacement part is now aluminium. I just went to move ours down the driveway & it failed completely. Luckily, I turned it right off because it drained itself of oil all over the driveway. Still can't find the plastic bung.

I’ve got my mobile mechanic replacing the cam cover on Thursday. So if yours is leaking, I'd just replace it before this happens. I was supposed to be driving to Manchester today from Cornwall, thank goodness I didn't!

Just to help people along, I have just lived the leaking cam cover bung issue on my 2017 1249 cc fiat 500. It appears you can't buy the plastic cover for this unit now, although they did send an incorrect plastic one as part of the process to sort it. We were also sent an incorrect metal one, so watch out for that. But finally we have the new cam cover fitted. £360ish for the part plus fitting, so not a cheap solution, but it seems OK so far.
