well here it goes, and sorry fro the length

the car in question is a 99 1.2

for the last week or two i have noticed a strange grinding noise, apparently coming from the nearside front, but im not certain. now this noise is depandant on road speed and is ony apparent when off the accelerator, depressing the cutch doesnt change things.

and to make things worse today the car has had a tendany to pull quite aggresively to the left, totally unexpectedly

any ideas what could cause this? i had the wheel off and couldnt see anything glaringly obvious, but then again i wouldnt really know what to be looking for.

also the car pops every now and then, but i just filled it up and it appeared to do it much more, and didnt seem to be running to well at all.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i am really loosing confidence in the car at the second.

Time To Make A Change...you knows it...24/7

Sticking brake, wheel bearing, CV joint, diff.

Check the brake pad wear, is it even between the two front wheels?

shall have a look in a mo, when i get a couple of minuites

cant have a proper look until tonight now, as soon as i have i will let you know. anything else i should look out for whilst its up in the air, try and cover as many bases at once as possible

cheers for the help

ok, quick update before i head home and have a good look around. whilst driving around today i have noticed that the coughing and spluttering i mentioned isnt actually coughing and spulttering i dont think. the reason for me saying this is that when on steering lock it makes the noise, what i would describe as a pop, and just the once, not repeatedley.

this is making me think along the lines of the diff, the reason i say this is that ve already had one go about 10-11 months ago. if anyone else has any other suggestions i would be grateful to hear them.

is there any way of checking it is the diff with the car up in the air?

ok, just had a look and im pretty sure its gearbox related. with the car in the air on axle stands i rotated the passenger side wheel and there was plenty of grinding. looking further into it it appeared to be coming from the gearbox rather than the hub etc.

looks like a second gearbox in less than a year!

will have to see what the garage have to say about warranty etc on the replacement
