Did you get new tensioners when you installed the belt?
Certainly does not sound right. How do you know the smell is off the crank?

They were only about gbp7 each when I did mine....
Not saying it is the extent of your problem, but I'd change it, just the same.

Awesome, is the car getting hot or makeing noises?
I am haveing trouble seeing how the crank could get that warm without everything getting hot... and probably the bearings toasted, as that is the only places heat could get transfered/created on the crank. I suppose the tensioner could have gone stuck and acted as a break on the belt, but the belts are toothed so it can't. Mine was still good enough to reuse at 191k, I just changed it as everything else appart from the valves was being replaced.

seems fine now. This 'Saterdag' I am gona take out crank seals front and rear it seems to be leaking oil (more then a bit) mech said the crank could be slightly worn thats why seals (brand new) does nt seem to seal-it! needs to cut the spring inside a little.
