Later models were better but the only one he could recommend was the diesel version!

I've had 2 JTD's - an 02 and an 04. Both have been fine, and I'd buy another tomorrow if the 04 was stolen. I think the Stilo's reputation is unfairly attacked, but I don't mind because it keeps the prices low.

i would say the same the diesels are the way forward, it seems to be the petrols that get all the problems,,

in your case yes!!

cant really fault my car :)

cheap insurance, tax, decentish mpg :D

hopefully i will get a few months out of her until just after christmas.... :)

then it might be hello hyundai i30 or kia ceed

I like the way you've tried to hide the fact :p

You'll regret it :shakehead:

C'eed and i30 are both very good, if boring, motor cars. Devoid of design flair and imagination of course but all bolted together well with better than average materials being used... However I would say that at certain angles the C'eed does look quite Stilo-esque.

Out of your two choice, id take the Kia.

The i30 looks like an old 1996 Mazda 323 hatchback thing, its awful :yuck:, looks cheap too. Oh, and its got a stupid name, although actually Cee'd isnt great either  Although 7 year warranty cant be beaten!

Depends how good the 7 year warranty is...

Apparently there is a HUGE list of exceptions.... and I'm not talking about brake pads and screen wash :p

As for the Ceed looking like a Stilo.. first time I saw the Ceed advert I wondered why they were advertising Stilos since they had just been discontinued

16v Coupe has been quite reliable.
Outside help only required on 1 occasion - distributor cap replaced.
Other problems outside normal service - thermostat & Lambda sensor both replaced at different times.
Work carried out by Bob Brain Developments, Cinderford, Glos, formerly of Monmouth (Lancia specialists) Highly recommended!

My 52 1.6 Dynamic has been problem free (tempting fate here now) with the exception of a nigly airbag warning.

Ok I've only owned her 4 months but have covered 9000 miles in that time so would have expected something to pop up. IMHO the Stilo has been far more reliable that the 04 2.2dci Laguna Sport Tourer I have (trying to get rid of) 15 months of ownership and numerous problems and lots of ££££ spent to keep her going.

It appears that a previous owner had a problem with the boot lock as the remote boot unlock doesn't work and inspection showed a relay had been wired in to bypass the system. Haven't found the time to rip it all apart and see exactly what has been done (any suggestions PM please)

My JTD is withstanding the high miles 20K+ a year better than the 1.6 did and for the money you spend buying the Stilo and the equipment (Generous) / comfort (extremely) / insurance costs (Low Group 5) that come with it, lead me to conclude that there were few alternatives for the 5K odd I paid 2 years & 41K ago for my 3 odd year old, 1 owner, FFSH ex. motability 19500 mile JTD Dynamic. ;)

Think buying the right car at the right money and then maintaining it to a high standard, including preventative maintainence i.e. fix it when you have an inckling of something wrong/deteriorating all helps. Free fall residuals dont

I won't engage in Kia or Hyundai knocking... A friend has an ex. dealer Demo Getz and is very positive about his 5 years of Getz ownership experience. Their warranty will at least cover most of the finance period on the car and should give great piece of mind and Mrs WNWL has already expressed an interest in Rio/i30/Ceed ownership because of the warranty package.

I bought another one!!
1st one was 3dr black 1.9jtd dynamic with skyroof. Clutch expired at about 87K on changing it was recommended have flywheel replaced, it was suspect. I suppose 87k is a bit early but these things happen my colleagues new Vauxhall spends more time at the dealers than with him. I was sad when I sold the Stilo, not enough space for European travelling, can't carry enough wine & antiques, but 60 plus mpg.
Now I got another one, searched the country for a 1.9jtd MW with a skyroof 62K on, drives well but just started the Airbag Engine saga. I'll keep you posted oh! and windscreen washer just packed in.
