I've just got a second hand factory sub woofer and would like to give the insides a good clean so it sounds as clear as possible.

Has anyone stripped one down before and has any tips for me?

Another job added to the list for weekend :)

Cheers in advance,

Sutty.

yes its straight forward
theres 10 billion screws mind
you might find speaker cone ripped of course once you get in there

iirc, there is about 6 or so screws in the back,
You need a long reach screwdriver,
Front part shouid come off,

Its been awhile since I opened mine up so I might be underestimating on the amount
Of screws,
They is only 100w but mine handles full base,
No rattles if you use a bit of laminate flooring -underlay.. :)

From memory 10 billion is potentially underestimating it! Also one of those extendable or long reach screwdrivers will be your best friend!

100w is great for the car - not overpowering
Decent set of fronts installed and it sounds okay :)

Only reason i fitted mine was
1 - i wanted a project
2 - it was cheap
3 - to try a sub out :)
4 - Boot space isn't compromised :)

and people may diss the 100watting-ness, but to not have 1 or a 100w, i'd take the 100w anyday :)

Do sometimes want more tho...

I agree, the sound suits the size of the car. I love the way it integrates in to the arch in the boot. Its a simple design but still a bloody good one, it makes use of an unused part of the car. Out of interest how does it sound with a full boot? Only used it when it's empty.

i had a 22 stone cadaver in mine
stunk a bit but the sound was awesome
try it(y)
:D

Does anyone know what the power usage of the sub is?

You all weren't kidding about needing a long screwdriver haha not got a Phillips long enough so will have to wait till I get to work tomorrow!!!

its 100w @ 12v

That is 100/12 = 8.3amps MAX before it'll pop the fuse

However - when i ran it through my multi-meter, i think i was getting about 5.5amps with it turned up quiet high...

My advice tho if your refitting a factory subwoofer that aint factory fresh in your car

Run ATLEAST 15amp cable and make sure its fused at the battery (10 or 15amp fuse) And make sure the subs 10amp fuse is okay, and it'll potter along fine day in - day out :)

I have my remote wire controlled still, Ie stereo on = Sub on :)

if your using an aftermarket HU - you can run the phono cable to the back, and add connectors to the sub :) saves splicing into the rear speaker wiring too!
