Slightly off-topic. Ford Sierras (sorry about the swearing) had a one-piece exhaust fitted on production line. Replacements came in three sections. So many people lined up the new piece, marked the original and cut it off, failing to allow for the overlap. This placed the tailpipe 2" inside the rear bumper and within a month they were asking the exhaust supplier for a new bumper, as if the exhaust was at fault. (All warranty claims refused!)
I bet you are all wondering how you've got through life so far not knowing this stuff!
PS. Just remembered, some Mk3 Escorts were like this too.
Yeah,i have a mk 2 punto and i fitted a set of standard mudflaps, and yes the exhaust gasses burn the mud flaps.its just the position of the exhaust, its too closeto the mud flaps, fiat engineers/designers,do they not take these things into consideration when designs exhausts etc???
Exhausts are still fitted as a one-piece item on most, if not all, production cars to this day- it's all about saving time, and therefore money. The standard mk2 1.2 8v needs cutting just before the rear axle for a replacement centre/rear section.
Were they OE (ie, Fiat) mudflaps, and were you still on the original exhaust?
I've seen many poorly fitting mudflaps and cheap, pattern rear silencers that don't get on well, lol.
Yep some problem haha now got a round cut in my bumper of the exhaust XDWell i had a nice surprise today - wondered why my flap looked odd...
Yup! My exhaust has Yet again heated up the clamp and melted the bumper and the mud flap again!
FFS!
Still yet to find a box suitable for a tip or a tip that will fit or something to mvoe the sodding exhaust
Ziggy
