Does anyone know what this system does and how it ties in with the ECU?

I had a real power loss/misfire/injector warning once warm and apart from cleaning things up a bit I disconnected to solenoid cable and the problem seems to have cleared up.

I need to make a decision how use this diagnosis for maintenance purposes [ie what bits do I replace?]...

Thanks for that.

They have a pretty handy forum and tips section there.

I especially liked the "I had a poor running Punto until it ran out of fuel, now it runs fine" message, which along with a post at the Fiat Forums on the subject of fuel pumps and pressure adds grist to my mill.

As part of yesterdays diagnostic work I also left the battery disconnected for 20 minutes. Haynes has two odd notes, one about how to reinstall the idle stepper motor, the other on un-installing/re-installing the ECU that make the point about ECU's storing vehicle specific/dynamic data.

Over at BB-reman someone suggests running the engine with the lambda disconnected effectively forcing the ECU to rely upon its default fueling map rather than closed-loop feedback.

Maybe my EVAP solution is a red-herring and it was disconnecting the earth that made the difference?

I'll try it out again today.

Thanks JLenno for the input.
