re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Hello
Complete newbie here... stumbled across the group.
I've had my new 500 1.2 for a month now. Had a 500 previously for two years, no problems with it at all. Rang the dealer yesterday to ask them to look at my car for exactly this problem. I was beginning to think I'd forgotten how to drive! I live in a VERY hilly area, but am more than used to it and have never had the issues I have with the throttle on my new car. It's started to make me paranoid about going out and I've been driving for over 25 years.
I'm glad I found the thread - I have something to show to the dealer now if he can't find anything 'wrong' with the car tomorrow.

Hi & welcome to the forum :wave:.

Sorry to hear you're also suffering as a result of this issue.

Hope you manage to get something positive from the dealer. Whatever they say, at least you now know it's not just you, even if your dealer tries to tell you that it is.

I was just wondering how many FF members have complained to Watchdog. I wonder how many complaints make for a critical mass for the show, any ideas?

I think that even with the programme Fiat will act like nothing is wrong, and will slowly slowly phase out the 1.2.

I had a reply from Fiat to my email (detailed further up this thread) yesterday. Despite me clearly saying I don't own one of these cars but was enquiring on behalf of other owners, their response was as follows:

Subject: Fiat Engine

Dear Mr Morley,

Thank you for contacting Fiat Group Automobiles UK.

In order to enable us to satisfactorily assist you as soon as possible we would like to ask you to be so kind to forward the following additional information:

- Your telephone contact(s) and address;
- Your vehicle's chassis number (or VIN) and registration number;
- Its current mileage;
- The name of the dealership that you contacted regarding this issue;
- Do you authorise me to send the dealership your personal data and your feedback, in order to guarantee a better and faster management of your request?

We look forward to hearing from you; you are welcome to reply to the present e-mail or to contact our Customer Relations team on 00800 3428 0000 choosing option number 3, from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 18:00.

Yours sincerely,

Needless to say I wasn't impressed, so responded this morning re-iterating my original point, but it looks like it's too late. Watchdog have them on their radar. Game over Fiat. Serves them right for fobbing people off. This should've been treated seriously months ago.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

All I can say is I hope they come crashing down and that it hurts big time, they've become bloody appalling both on a national basis at Fiat UK, and the majority of their dealerships when it comes to customer service and doing the right thing. They needed to take a long hard look in the mirror and buck their ideas up and pronto.

I've bought four cars in the last 2 years and every single dealer has been woeful. Only one of them was Fiat :eek: It amazes me that none of them think repeat business is worthwhile (n)

We flagged up this problem to Fiat within two or three days of buying the car. We have had seven months of misery, banging our heads against a brick wall. The stress has taken its toll on me, to such an extent that we have just bought another car, digging an unwanted deep hole in savings and have, standing unused in the garage, a £9000 Panda that is worthless.

Two local garage owners have offered to put the car into auction for me but the Fiat dealer won't take it back. I don't like the idea of passing such a horrible vehicle on to any private buyer.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

At least nobody can deny the problem exists which is the first part of the battle. Now the pressure is on Fiat to resolve it, which must be possible given it was not in earlier incarnations of the engine, which is fundamentally the same.

I notice a couple of members from here must work for Fiat or be blinkered given the way they ridiculed people about the problem or that it just needed to run in.

I noticed this some time ago. I got an awful lot of flack from one 'person' who seemed to be posting 24 - 7. Other people noticed this as well. I stopped putting up any post for a while, until it quietened down. We were getting the smoke screen nonsense from the dealer too. One gem was 'The car is heavier and has larger wheels' when the car is in fact lower geared. The overall ratio, including wheels, is lower than our 09 Panda which averaged about 1000rpm less for a given speed, this showed on a rolling road test comparing the two cars.

I know that some of the twin air cars have their own issues and are getting the same brush off from Fiat.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

I spoke to a dealer over here recently and asked him had he had any complaints about the 2014 500, he said none at all and seemed genuinely suprised by the issue - he sells quite a few and I'm pretty sure he was being genuine judging from his reaction. One can only presume there are a lot of owners out there who are simply not aware their car has an issue or think it's 'just the way it is' and know no better. This is presuming of course that it is affecting all cars. It will be interesting to see if the Watchdog publicity brings existing owners out of the woodwork and after seeing the programme will think 'gosh my car does that too' causing the flood gates to open.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

As with many manufacturers dealers often assume repeated behaviour (i.e the sale fault on a number of cars) to be a feature of the design rather than identify it as a fault.

Which to be fair it is, but doesn't mean it isn't a fault, it's just a design fault rather than a component failure

Hopeless reply eh Liam. Talk about ignoring the content of what you wrote...:(

Had exactly the same issue when I complained about my third year warranty transfer recently; the initial reply back from Fiat CS (via Facebook) had no relation whatsoever to my comments.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Had a call from FIAT CS yesterday and they still insist there is nothing wrong.I was not aware until now regarding Watchdog.I hope FIAT UK will be watching.
