and it wasn't over revving.... I think I only revved it to about 2250-2500 rpm.

Mmm, well we´ll have to take your word for that as the rev counter wasn't in frame unfortunately. But going by the engine note I'm sure I won't be the only person to have my doubts.

Why in all that's holy would I drive 10 miles to a Fiat dealership and waste a good hour or so of my life and my money to fake driving a couple of cars up a hill at low rpm, the mind boggles, it truly does.....

I never said that you would lie. Not to prove a point or otherwise. Perish the thought!

It's just that you said you thought you only revved it to 2.25-2.5k. which would suggest you are not really quite sure yourself. Therefore we shall have to deduce our own estimate from the engine note and sound of spinning tyres.

So if I was to say "I only have two legs" that would suggest that I'm not sure how many legs I have?

Palma500s, you need to stop trying to interpret peoples statements to fit in with what you believe, I've been on here for a good 6 years now and people generally trust what I say. When I say only 2250-2500 I mean only 2250-2500.....

Now I never actually said that did I?

You did, you even then confirm it below:

What I said was that the videos show Maxi over revving and wheel spinning 2 different cars up a hill in the rain

He wasn't over revving it the first time he went up in the assumed euro6 model, he was driving it as it should have been, and as anyone else would have in the same conditions.

I've just re-viewed the Watchdog report, and to be frank, I'm suspicious of the gear in which she was driving to demonstrate the 'Problem' - Watch it again and see what you think.
We get the car this weekend.

I don't doubt there is an issue with some cars but if you mean the near stall at about 4:00 mins in, I did wonder what gear she was in at the time.

Incidentally Fiat's official response is now published on the BBC site after previously being withdrawn.

Exactly. On the steep bit I did two identical tests on each car, 1st was to start lower down which means a gentler start, the 2nd go was an extreme test, it's probably something like a 30% gradient, perhaps a little more/less. The person that knows the area can confirm this, the road going up to that turnoff is in itself a decent gradient, not too dissimilar to the one watchdog complained about. This was part of the test too, but this seems to have been disregarded....

The aim was to perform the same tests with both cars. I didn't drive till I got the results I wanted, I pulled into the shell and drove out and did two runs.

Despite trying different ways of setting off I have never managed to spin the wheels. The engine is just so slow to rev up.I have never had a hill climb issue, its the lack of torque and erratic throttle control under 2000rpm thats my problem.

Tbh the engine in yours sounds completely different to the one in either of the 500's I was driving yesterday.

The test drive 500 was pokey and driveable :)

You will also note that the test drive car happily managed wheelspin pulling away on level ground at the end of the e6 vid....... Make of that what you will.....

I still feel euro 6 is somewhat of a red herring in all of this....

No, we've got a shedload of independent posts from different countries from folks who've been told by Fiat or their franchised dealers that this issue is down to the change to Euro6, and thanks to muttleysdad we now also have a photo of the clutch pedal area which shows a part which isn't there on my S/S equipped Euro5 500.

Furthermore we also have Fiat's official statement in reponse to the Watchdog investigation: "Compared to EU5 engines, there is a subtle difference in EU6 engine software, which may take some customers a little while to adapt to."

Bearing in mind the extremely high profile of the Watchdog report, I'd say Fiat will have given a considerable amount of thought to that statement; it's much more significant than a throwaway line from some multifranchise dealer in response to an individual customer complaint.

I'm not saying it doesn't coincide with euro 6, but imho it's not a software issue, if the engine was hobbled as badly as others suggest then it would happen to everyone.
