Hi guys, there is an annoying whine coming from the engine, pitch increases/ecreases with rev. What could this be??

Could be loads of reasons why. Try and locate the sound more accurately first by getting someone to rev it while you listen. Concentrate on the timing belt and turbo (if it has one) as they will whine in unison with revs. After running the engine for a bit, turn it off and touch the pulley wheel to the timing belt. If its hot, its slipping and either needs tensioning or changing.
It may be the alternator, bearings do run dry with age
