Were having a spot of bother with an engine swap in a cinuecento 1.1.
Were fitting a 1.2 punto 60 block in the car.. we have fitted a new clutch, cambelt kit, plugs, thermostat, waterpump etc and fitted the new engine into the vehicle... Now connecting the engine back up, were having a few problems....

The electrics are wired up, and the engine turns over and runs (tested to see if the engine was working etc.)

Were not sure where the gear selector is mounted on the gearbox as we can line up one hole on the bracket, but cant see where to bolt the other mounting hole as there doesnt seem to be anywhere on the block/gearbox to mount it.

Finally we have one of the nipple type things from the tb withouth anything attached to it, lol and were sure there was some sort of tube attatched. Its a long one at the rear, top of the TB.

I can supply pictures tomorrow when its lighter under the bonnet. Any engine/tb/gearbox diagrams would be appreciated..

Cheers all and sorry for he cr*p description.. :D

Don't know why you didn't put the selector on the gearbox (and the gearbox on the engine) before mounting it. :bang:

I've no clear pics of the selector mechanism on the Sporting, but here's the TB from the Italian manual

Cheers, is number 7 on that diagram, but the italian text isn't really helpfull, is there anyway i can get it translated lol

Also the gearbox was on the engine, and i think the rear selector was on before fitting (just needed to pop the cable onto the ball joint type thing when fited into the engine bay). Its the top bit... Theres a cable that comes across the top of the box, and is bolted to the top of the box, and i passes through a metal mount... which we have flapping around at the min. I wasn't around when the engine was refitted (working) so im not 100% sure whats gone on lol...

I dou the haynes will be much use either

Yeah, there are two water hoses which connect to the TB. That's one of them.

For the cables, I take it you have the two main (thick) cables hooked up? The smaller cable is the reverse detente cable. It should have a plate attached to it. The detente itself fits through a hole near the gearbox earth cable and it's held on by a single bolt which fits through the plate.

If I read this correctly, you are using the Punto box in the cento.

You need to remove the punto selector system completely, including the turret on the box, and fit the cento turret with the two brackets that attach to the bellhousing bolts to hold the outer cables.

I presume you changed the clutch fork before fitting.

Cheers

In that case, I really don't understand the problem, as all the mountings are on the cinq box. If its the reverse cable thats causing problems, you need to take the reverse light switch out to get it sitting properly.

Cheers

Throttle body problem.... are the wto parts with the arrow inbetween supposed to be connected via a pipe?

I would buy a haynes manual to find out what goes where, but hafords, motorworld and two other independant car shops haven't got one, and i need the car on the road before thursday as this is when my clio is being collected grr

Don't get the two parts bit. The exposed brass tube takes a water pipe.

The other I'm not sure. If I get a chance I'll take a peek tomorrow.

BTW, it'd help to in line pics linked to your gallery here, rather than post them on a site in the US!

cheers for having a look, as for hosting i dont know how to do it on site, sorry

I'll go out and see if I can take a pic of the plate later. But to get the pics up, click on "Gallery" (just below the FF banner, above) and then on "upload photos" and you can then -- once they've uploaded -- inline them just by copying and posting the BB code in a post.

There's just too much in the way to see clearly, but I think rallycinq may be right. There seems to be a big bracket and then the smaller one which holds the cable ends. Nothing useful in the Sei manual.

I did peek for the water pipe. Can confirm it is a water pipe, but couldn't get my hand down there far enough to see where it goes. You'll have one loose pipe flapping around between the TB and the bulkhead.

I went onto eBay to see if there were any gearboxes (people usually sell gearbags with the brackets in place) but nothing.

Idea: start a fresh post asking for pics of the rear of the gearbox.

May the force be with you. ;)

Finally found a cento haynes manual, but no joy.... decided to bolt it where suggested earlier.....

As for the water, we realised that the pipe that joins the heater matrix and tb with a another spur off to the tb (the bit i was asking about) was broken... this is why we couldnt work it out.... after a visit to FIAT, and £25 for the smallest pipe ive ever seen, it should be finished....... The part arrives tomorrow, so i cant wait lol....
