Technical engine light on in the cold

when driving my mk2 1.2 8v punto 2003 in the very cold weather engine light came on and temp gauge dropped from normal to zero any help plz

The thermostat might be stuck open. Or the temperature sensor is broken. As koalar mentioned, make sure antifreeze is at normal level.
