Technical Engine fault light

Was just driving in the town centre and all of a sudden the car went very chuggy and then the engine fault light flashed up on the dash and the LCD screen. I pulled over and turned the car off and restarted it but was still the same, since i was stopped in the bus lane with my hazards on i decided to just drive it home slowly, as it wasnt far away.

As i was driving home though the light went away and the chugging stopped, so i dont really know what it could be. Im letting the car cool down at the moment, so i can check the oil but other than that im clueless

Anyone got any other things i should check before i call my break down thing

Same kinda symptoms with mine... they a few days later while driving they all died!

I wouldn't have a clue, i checked the oil and the level is fine. Got someone coming to have a look at it now

Just turned my car on and it all seems normal Still gonna let the guy have a look at it and if he cant find anything wrong with it, i'll have to take it down fiat monday morning

Does it make a difference if they are Sagem or Champion coils? My mums 1.6 has Sagem, my 1.8 has Hitatchi (i think)

Well its gone now I had to have it towed down the fiat garage otherwise i couldnt have a courtesy car, but i dont even get that till monday

Lets hope it is just a coil

Sagem coils seem to fail alot (often all 4), I have had to change all four coils to get a stilo car to run correctly on more than one occasion.
I honestly dont know why but when monitoring the spark duration times the champion coils appear very stable wether sagem ones are not,not sure if this is the reason but it's the only difference I can see.
Misfire under initial load (under 3000rpm) seems to be the main problem with the sagem coils...run them until they start giving trouble would be my advice,£35 each for new champion coils by the way so not too bad.

It probably is, your problem sounds just like the one i had... and they are covered on the 3rd year warranty if your cars that age.

Nope my car will be getting its 2nd MOT in january It needs a service as well so hopefully they can do that while theyre repairing it

The coils can be difficult to diagnose (if it is them that are at fault) as the ECU throws up a injector fault (what if it is a injector?) also the fault is normally logged as number 4 injector/coil even though it isn't!
Bit of trial & error is sometimes required here...spare couple of coils in the toolbox helps

The weird thing was that the fault come up and the car started chugging and losing power. Then when i drove it home slowly the fault went away and the engine seemed to be running fine

I just hope it dont cost too much to repair

Yeah the garage was just open for sales, so the gates to go round the back were open and it was still in the same place i left it Hopefully theyll look at it first thing in the morning, or i'll be stuck with my dads companies rover 200 diesel
