My wife's panda developed this warning light fault while I was in hospital, so never really seen it myself.- engine light came on at starting with low oil pressure warning Checked level etc. and no problem. Some time later (weeks) eng. fault lamp came on. Car checked by breakdown man and no fault found, taken to our local garage for full check. Only fault was for turbo actuator sticking, freed off. It's ran fine since ,several hundred miles, no probs. until today. Seems OK now, problem is we some milage to do and I can't do anything. Any ideas what the prob. may be ? I know it's a daft question. Car is generally good, 87000 miles. No codes stored.

@wgw

What exactly is the problem today? Is the light back on? Which light exactly and is it steady or flashing, any dash messages if you car has the capability?

What time scale was all this over? When was the last service and was it done by a Fiat dealer or specialist or just a general garage?

Even with this information we can only give generic answers. It realy needs to have Fiat specific computer diagnostics put on the car to see why the light has been put on. A generic OBD code reader will not pick up all fault codes and may give misleading indications for codes it does pick up.

Thanks for replies, I should give more info. The car is 2010. Last check was by my trusted local garage, who are v. good at computer diagnostics. Car serviced by them at same time, all was well. The warning lamp is an engine shaped outline, and stays on when engine running but no more warnings. I used to do all my own maintenance but cannot now. Did have a check and oil level etc. OK. Soot trap ? no idea, but it did give me the idea to try a run at revs in low gear, wife won't try it. I now think maybe that is problem. I asked her to give me a run and 3000rpm is the max she takes it to, I can't drive now with health probs.

No DPF on my 2010 MJ.

This is possible if it was already in the supply pipeline. Any type certificate after 2009 had to have DPF but existing types could be registered up to Dec 2010 without one. I think there were a lot of '59 pre-reg cars on forecourts in early 2010. Years ago Ford were virtually giving away "Kent" engined Fiestas because new emissions regulations meant they would not be able to sell them the next year.

Thanks all. As soon as the snow clears we are going for a thrash and get hot. I seem to remember an earlier car that had similar problems.

Took it for a drive- just 5 or 6 miles, that's all all we could get in the conditions . Low gear , got home and switched off, re-start and good news- no warning light.So assume it got hot enough and spring will bring a cure! BTW just a few hundred miles N of motorway. Thanks for help.

Down here it's snow? What snow? The new tyres (General Sports) were fine on slushy local roads.

We had a bit of freezing rain over night (common in Devon) but at 7 this morning the car windscreen was just slushy. By 8pm it was frozen solid and took some serious scraping. Dartmoor has a sprinkle of snow and looks great but I expect the roads are horribly slippery. More is expected up there this morning.
