Technical engine control system failure light

hi, my fiat brava 1.6sx orange engine control system light is staying on at the dashboard,
it came on when on motorway and has not gone off,
can my wife still drive the car for work? and what can i do to resolve problem, i have no fiat dealers where i live,

You don't need a Fiat dealer. A generic code reader will give you a hint.

It will be ok to drive but performance will be restricted.

took it around mates plugged it into a diagnostics machine come up with faulty coolent sensor, also light has gone off dashboard,
