I'm finally going to make a start building the enclosure for my 12" sub tomorrow (1.5 cuft) using sites suggested by various members in the past (thanks!)

I also have an 8" sub which I've been using in the meantime and tbh I'd quite like to keep using it along side the 12" to cover some of the higher freqs. However, I have no specs for it I can't even find a model number. I'm thinking an enclose size of approx 0.7 cuft would be OK, thus allowing me to basically make the box 1.5 times the size suggested and just section off a third of it for the 8"er. Does that sound like a plausible way of doing it?

I think what paul means id it doesnt actually matter what sort of enclosure you put the 8" into. Siting in the boot firing towards the boot all of the sound will just be cancelled out by the 12.
Also a 12"sub in a 1.5 cube box is not going to leave you wanting for punch.
What sub is it that you have as that box seems way too small for a vast majority of 12's even if it is sealed.
I have toyed with the idea of a larger sub off axis and a smaller one placed slightly further forward and on axis, but this would be pretty difficult to stage and get right.
