Technical EGR valve - what a $&%!* job, what a difference it makes!

Yes, fully removing and cleaning EGR valve is as frustrating and awkward as all the good people/guides say. Especially if you drop one of the pipe gaskets down the back of the engine. If you do the same, save yourself hours of poking about from above and below - just remove the battery and it will somehow be right there showing through the battery tray!!
Anyway, after a lot of fiddling about and swearing, it's had 78k of soot cleaned out and wow, what a difference. Much faster revving from idle and feels like a different car. She was running 'fine' before, so it's one of those creeping deaths that you don't notice driving day in, day out.
Thanks to everyone who's written about EGR valve cleaning, I wouldn't have bothered without your help!

Mr Multipla, glad your car is better however it's not that bad a job (book time of 40 minutes) and if you want a bad one try the 1.3 panda...I spat the dummy out on that one lol:bang:

Interesting. I blanked mine off on my X reg last year and didn't feel a difference. I'm tempted to clean the one on my Clio DCi though.

Ditto. If anything, fuel consumption has got worse since I blanked mine off.
