EGR. Not so good on a car with a few miles on the clock.

This seems a head in the sand mentality to me:
I'll keep using the device even thought it reduces performance and costs me money because of poor MPG. ;)
I assume that's a self quote ;)

If so then I agree - either fix it or remove it (y)

If yours is faulty then I'd say it's certainly better to block it than to carry on using a defective EGR system.

But, if the money's available for a refurbished or brand new unit then why not fit it and effectively see an end to the problem.

There really are few reports of people coming back and moaning about the same problems after it's been changed (a least in Stilo section) which suggests to me that the remaining soot within the manifold is not a massive issue. I'm sure my manifold is full of soot but it still runs great (y)

The biggest issues seem to come from attempting to only clean it which then provides just a brief respite :)

Its only function is to reduce NOx.

Wrong

While it does this very well, without effecting the performance on a new car

Wrong

plus no one really cares about reducing the amount of NOx produced as long as the problems have gone.

you mean you dont, a rather selfish view...f*ck everyone else I have saved a few quid! So if everyone thought this way how many tons of Nox would be released daily across the world and how much into your kids lungs?

unfortunally the police/vosa seem incapable of using a code reader, however I welcome a move like they do in parts of America where your EOBD light is visable from rear of the car so police can easily see it. On the spot fine:)

What a fantastic idea, & how about getting people to fix broken headlights - stop them directing aircraft or having to run on main beam to make up for lack of vision.
or getting drivers to switch off fog lights in perfectly clear weather conditions.
Or a move by police to get cars off the road that insist on showing blue lights when they are not an emergency vehicle (I don't mean blue tinge like you get with the pure white or ice white lights, I mean blatant blue)

I would never buy anything off an 'expert' who cannot spell engines or units...
NOT PETROL ENGINE'S AS THEY USE THE SAME ENGINE UNIT'S BUT HAVE DIFFERENT EGR UNIT'S.

That has to be the most untrue statement i have ever read. How many Mechanical Gurus are Academic Geniuses? A lot of Mechanically minded people are ADHD, Dyslexic and Aspergers. (y)

 Sorry, how is that statement untrue? How do you know who I would buy stuff from?
In any case, don't confuse the use of the greengrocer's apostrophe with dyslexia.
