K, so I recently posted about my mk2 punto backfiring (severe) I took it to the garage to get the codes read, the guy in the garage said i needed 2 new coils and new ecu and quoted me 600+ for the repairs, which I could not afford... anyways to cut a long story short I was looking on ebay for replacement ecu's costing between 2 and 3 hundred a pop, looked at the possiblility of putting a 2nd hand one on- but that meant I'd have to change locks, keys, barrel etc...
found a guy under the name of ecu testing ltd that repairs your own ecu unit... dint think this was possible but it is, sent it off on saturday, got a txt when they recieved it one when they fixed it and one when it had been despatched and got it back today. 3 day turnover.. The part is back on the car... runs mint!! Better than it did before the misfire started. I would recommend this guy he is amazing, quick and reliable + u get a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.
Just thought u guys may find this helpful as I believe it's a very popular and costly fault on the mk2.
1 thing I would say is make sure u put new coils on before you put ecu back on tho cos otherwise if u have faulty coils it may spike your ecu all over again.
