Do you know if the upgraded hw303 ecu would work in a car with hw003 as original? Was thinking if it would work if one bought the kit with ecu, immobilizer and key.
Good question. The earlier ECU hardware version failure caused by the coils was so common you would imagine the later hardware version was designed to be a plug and play solution. Can you get a kit which has the same body computer as the one you are using now?

it seems you can replace HW003 with HW303. So the easiest solution is to get a virgin HW303.

I see on Ebay there is a virgin (plug and play) HW303 ECU available in Poland for 119e. But that seller is saying you need the exact part number. Can you find your part number on the Finnish car parts web site?

I also need to replace mine, but I'm somewhat confused... Here is mine:

Which numbers here HAVE to be the same, which ones can I just ignore and which ones can be replaced by others? You mentioned that HW003 can be replaced by HW303, which is better, but what else should I look for?

If there is a shortage of spare parts, you have no choice. You take what's available. Take a risk and see what happens.
Also, why are you searching in English + eBay?
Parts like that should be obtainable in Russia (you have pretty good level of DIY and pro shops: alarms, keys/immo, ECU programming/repair services).

Still one left from the buyer I bought mine from. It needs to read IAW59FM3 and then hw303
