Technical Ducato error code P0403. EGR valve cleaning DIY help

HI everyone!
I have a Fiat Ducato 2007 3.0 160hp and the typical engine light turned on... because the EGR valve I suspect.
After reading the OBDII, the error P0403 appears persistently.

I think that I would need to clean the EGR valve after a lot of reading, and also, because it fails to start on the first attempt and then it starts.
I would love some guidance on how to do it by myself. I have some repair manuals but I am not sure if I have the correct one or not.

Has anyone been successful repairing this issue on their own?

The start point with this is to actually know if your EGR is working or not. Only physical check will tell if it is operating. I disconnected the throttle body and shoved pipe up EGR cooler to be able to always be able to blow through it. So stuck open.
