I’ve just had a quote to fit a new cam belt and water pump and it was £1500.
This seems a bit steep to me
Any one else had this done and how much was yours?

Model
2.3
Year
2017
Mileage
63000
Yes that does seem excessive.
For a professional workshop, that has the tools/fixtures you should be looking at 4-5 hours (Say 1 day to be generous) and around £250 ish for the kit including water pump.
I did mine (2019) at home in a day with help, and that included quite a few coffee breaks :coffee: to check things

It might be worth getting a quote from elsewhere. Here's what the A.I. engine has to say...

The cost to replace the cambelt and water pump on a 2017 Fiat Ducato 2.3 MultiJet II is reported to be £630 for the cambelt alone, with a full service added bringing the total to £2,100 at a professional garage. Independent garage estimates for similar models range from £435 to £485, while franchise dealers may charge between £626 and £724, depending on the year and parts used. These figures include parts such as the timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, tensioner, and o-rings, with some DIYers saving £200–£250 by performing the work themselves. The 2017 model is subject to the same maintenance schedule as other 2.3 MultiJet variants, with recommendations to replace the timing belt every 4 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, and to replace the water pump at the same time if it has been in service for several years.

Was this quote from a fiat dealer ?
Did it include anything in addition to cam belt and water pump?

I’ve attached the breakdown. Total is £1434.98

It’s a standard camper van rated at under 3.5 t. Anyway I’ve attached the complete quote form

£685 plus vat for belt and water pump (not even including tensioner) looks excessive.
You would get proper idea of actual cost by asking fiat dealer yourself or shop4parts.
I wouldn't get parts from fiat but would rather get a kit from the company who makes the parts for fiat or kit recommended by shop for parts

Interested in the thread but sorry not much help.

However I'd agree the parts are loaded even compared with retail prices and decent slack in labour hours.

The quote is clearly stated as such with the usual but if it's more.. No information on warranty or rebate for labour hours.

Canny Scotsman, but charging £18 for coolant 🤬 and twice for 'Disposals' and consumables🤬🤬.

Get another quote.

If there's a reason to use the garage so be it, but I think the "estimated quote" gives Indies a bad name.

Sounds a bit steep to me too.
Even including the water pump, which is not included in Fiats recommendations, and all the Ducato 2.3 water pump problems I have heard of have occurred after the water pump has been replaced. (including some real horror stories... rusted bolt snapped off... engine out to drill out the broken stud...drill slipped...block ruined...months of delay and endless argument over who should pay for what)
Nick Fisher, who was in charge of a fleet of Ducatos on lease/hire at Euroserve Leicester, told us he had only ever changed one Ducato 2.3 water pump and that was because the engine was already out. They never had any problems with Water pumps and kept their Ducatos for around 250k miles before moving them on.

(changing the water pump with the timing belt may be worthwhile on other engines where the pump is not so durable and is much less extra work to change)

Found the parts on shop4parts.co.uk for £123.81 + vat.
They want to charge me £685 + vat
