Hi
Can anyone help?
I have a Hymer motorhome which is built using a Fiat Ducato chassis as it's base.
The problem is that the handbook that came with it tells you nothing at all about the base vehicle ie specs etc, just about the Hymer part of it and how to use all the equipment etc.
The problem I have is that I suspect that I am ready for a new battery, but as I'm sure you all know, it's located in a horrible place in a well in the floor.
So as a total novice I do not fancy getting it out of there! I want to order a new battery cos it's a 2016 model and if the battery is not goosed now (which I suspect it is) it very soon no doubt will be.
So can anyone tell me the correct battery to order?
It's a 3.0 auto (diesel)
I can just about make out 110 Ah (whatever that means).
I imagine if anyone has the same Ducato model as a commercial vehicle the starter battery will be the same?
Any advice much appreciated!

Hi Mikethebike

The battery sits under the floor in front of the passenger (RHD). Take out any carpet, then there is a big rectangular plastic panel with quarter turn fasteners which also needs to come out. Under that you may find a metal cover with a couple of bolts one side and hinges the other. I have a feeling that later models ditched this to save weight (!).

You should now see the battery, which is clamped with a bar across the top. Electrical contacts are quick release with over-centre clamps. It's blooming heavy, so try a couple of nylon straps underneath and get someone to help you lift.

The rating of 110 Ah (Ampere-hours) tells you the capacity, which sounds right from memory. Fiat probably fit different sizes according to market (hot/cold climate), so there may be physical room for a slightly larger size but this is probably not worth it unless you live in the north of Scotland.

If you go to a battery supplier's website and enter a ficticious Fiat Ducato van with the same year and engine size/power as your MH, it should come up with the right type.
