I thought the flap operated in completely the opposite to what is commonly perceived in that it is predominantly activated to the closed position when switching off the ignition, aiding the stopping of the engine by shutting off the airflow but returning to the open position ready to start the engine again - have I got that wrong?
Very old systems did "anti shudder valves" but the "throttle valves" predominantly with a throttle portion sensor are to do with how much exhausted is rerouted to the inlet for emmision control.

Get view of the throttle flap when attempting to start engine.....if flap closes fully when trying to start there is a problem with it

Ok, so the takeaway from this is that the "throttle valve" is now the EGR and only sucks in part of the exhausts (emission control)?
I might try again tomorrow.

Also had the mechanic scan the vehicle with his diagnostic tool. No results.
He also tried starting it using start spray. Recorded the attempt, will share it tomorrow if anyone is curious to hear the compression etc.

According to the mechanic, it might be the injector(s)...

Not really no-There is an egr valve and the throttle valve that work together to reduced emissions.

If the throttle valve fully closes when engine is trying to start the engine won't get enough air to start.
Do a video of throttle valve when engine cranking to show action of throttle valve.

The throttle valve is usually located between the intercooler outlet and the inlet manifold. If it sticks closed when starting, then minimal air into engine.......
Nothing to compress, or burn fuel with.
