Technical Ducato 2004 engine revving when idle

Hi..


I have a Ducato 2004 that revs between 1800 and 2400 revs when idle irrespective whether it's hot or cold! The van drives okay and no-misfires.


It's also an intermittent problem, sometimes the fault will randomly disappear, then sadly reappear a short while later.


Has anyone come across this before and if so have you managed to permanently fix it?

There is a thread somewhere on the forum relating to this fault that suggested one possible cause is due to the gearbox/chassis earth cable failing (the ECU sees low battery voltage & revs engine to compensate)

It is easy to check this by using a temporary jump lead to supplement the earth cable.
