Hi all, my cig lighter went on fire now my sidelights are on constantly.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
The O/S even stays on with both fuses taken out, the interior fan fused today too.
After messing up with the cig. lighter I'm reluctant to try anything without some advice.
It would be great if any of you can point me in the right direction.
I'm having to disconnect the battery if parking for any length of time.
Thanks in advance.
Gerry

I'm an engineer not an electrician, but it would appear that you've fried the wiring loom when you connected your reversing camera incorrectly.
Isolate battery and seek professional help as you have a live power feed to normally isolated circuits, most probably where the loom burned out.
Fire is a distinct possibility.

Thankyou Krosus, I've sent for something to check to trace the problem.

When the cigar lighter got too hot, the feed wire to it also got hot. Somewhere in the loom several wires have melted together.

You now have to start from the cigar lighter and follow the loom along until you fiind the melted bit. Then try to pick it apart and repair it. This will probably involve a lot of peering under the fascia, where you can't see, and when you use a torch, it will mask the view. May require dismantling of the fascia.

Had a problem a few years ago when the reverse light wire on a Seicento shorted. £100 labour, less than £1 for parts.

Thankyou all for your input, it is appreciated.
Gerry
