Oh No! I believe the Dual mass flywheel is the cause of a noise, when just resting foot on the clutch pedal and probably the cause of some extra noise I can hear when driving. I only noticed it about 300 miles ago, Question is how long before it becomes necessary to have it fixed???
 
If it lets go inside the housing worse case it could damage a casing or shaft that would be very expensive news. Personally I would have it apart as soon as possible, it is a definite going to get worse issue. That’s not to say it may well function fine and go on for many miles, but no ones going recommend that option I’m sorry to say.

you can drive till it works, also be prepared to change clutch when flywheel goes
 
Are you sure? The DMF usually makes a vibration. If yours rattles a little bit and the noise disappears when you press the pedal down, then it's more likely to be the clutch release bearing.

That ^ would be a gearbox off job. I'd always change the clutch at the same time, since that's not a huuuuge cost compared to the labour costs for dismantling the gearbox.

This is what happened to mine, the centre piece of metal started to detach itself and it caused release bearing noises and turned out it was the dmf then loose in the centre, several small bits flew off, changed the lot and it’s all good again IMG_3962.JPG
 
This is common in diesels due to low down torque and the heavier load low down...

If you drive it sensible and dont load them too much low down, they last longer.. my motor has done 5,500 since i bought it, on 78k. It had just had a new clutch and dmf... all is fine still.. but i have seen first hand how quickly one can be damaged and the lifespan reduced... if driving incorrectly, changing gear down to low like a taxi driver... and i know this as a taxi driver with a 1.9cdti 150hp vectra (same engine as my multijet, same clutch and dmf) has had his replaced 5 times in 3 years... either buying a dmf made of cheese or he is driving it low down too much. I mentioned this to him and he just smiled!!

I drive mine in gears at low rpms but change up a cog if i need to hurry along... i sort of get it and have a feel for driving diesels that are heavy and torquey.
