Hi,

We have a 2003 Fiat Punto 1.2 Active Petrol, 3 door. We have had an issue with the door on the driver side for a few years now and it has already been welded as it is opened and closed 40+ times a day due to it being used for work, it has dropped on numerous occasions and takes a lot of car to put it back on again.

We have just taken it to a garage that we know quite well and they were just about to get to door to fit in (or so they say). However, the door isn't closed according to the car, so you can't central lock it properly. If you put the pin down before closing the passenger door, then to lock it, it pings it back up again.

It may be risky for us to open the door and not completely close but it is even more risky to leave it unlocked, we don't have a garage and in my area if people could steal water from you, they would.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You could try disconnecting the multi-plug in the hinge area to see if you can then leave the car manually locked via the key, and just keep using the remote for the driver side?

But its probably a tired / worn out door actuator/lock (all in one)

Since its that tired.... 2nd hand from a scrappy of matching description should see you out right, but it requires door card off

Ziggy

As in that will keep off the central locking for that door. We don't have remote central locking, just normal. Also annoyingly its the drivers side door that is causing the issue. Passenger side is fine, we've had to go in through the passenger side door before so it isn't any big deal.

If the first sentence is true is there any dummy instructions for someone who isn't really that knowledgeable in cars to follow.

Thanks for your help.

Update: I have put putty over it and used duct tape to stop the driver side pinging up when it is being locked. Now we just lock it, and keep it in the lock position temporarily until it stops and then it seems to keep it locked in play.

May not be good for the long term for it but for now it may help, probably won't pass the MOT if it can't have the driver side door open I presume anyway.

Mot door needs to be openable

Id try a 2nd hand door lock actuator and an hoir or 2 doing it
