Hi,

Could some one tell me were the Drive belt is located? and also how much KM must the Drive Belt and Timing Belt be changed ? And if the timing belt would break what damages could occure?

Thanks
TeT

A failure of the Cam belt can mean the end of the engine. Which engine do you have? Fiat suggest the belt needs changing after 5 years or 72,000 miles.

1.2 8V Engine. Cam Belt do you mean timing Belt?

Think its the other way round.

When my dad took his Vectra 1.9 16v in for a cam belt change, he was told if the cam belt went on the 1.9 8v (same as in GP) it would cause major damage. Whereas the 16v unit only breaks the rockers, which are pretty cheap to repare compared to valves and pistons etc.

Garage suggests that both are replaced at arround 60.000kms!

Aint that a bit too short of a life time especially if the manual does say that it should be changed at 120.000kms?

However I do know that most manufacturers in the past and probably on their older models, did suggest that both belts are replaced at 60.000kms max. Is the Grande using some new tech with the belt and entire mechanism that increases its life cycle?

(My car is a StarJet 1368cc 16v 95bhp)
