General Downsides of a convertible?

Has anyone used Scotchgard on the ragtop? It's about the only product I can find locally that might work. There's plenty of treatments for vinyl tops but damn all specifically for fabric.

Never used Scotchgard on a fabric roof but did used to use a fabric protector on an mg tf that we used to have and it seemed to work fine , aldi sometimes have a waterproofing spray that works OK (caveat on an mg we don't have a soft top fiat) and is cheap there is no need to buy stuff specifically for car use companies just charge double for it compared with similar sprays for tents or similar !

Halfords stock the Autoglym kit which I'm impressed with , I'm not sure about Renovo stockists but again a good product .

There's plenty of products available, you usually have to buy them online. Local car franchise stores never seem to stock any convertible top products.

You're right there 44, certainly the case in AU anyhow.
