DPF's will only re-generate so many times and dealers are charging £900 + vat + fitting, could be worse VW's ar £1100 + vat + fitting !! I do not see the point of DPF's they stifle our engines and hoodwink us into thinking they are good for the environment. How can they be good for the environment? To re-generate every 1200km the ECU instructs the engine to over-fuel to raise the temperature at high speed, this blows some of the crud out of the exhaust pipe, so who pays for the fuel?

May I ask where you are getting this information from?

Had problems with my 120 ps 2007 Doblo going into limp mode due to a supposedly blocked DPF. We have a furnace where I work especially for cleaning these, so we baked it @ 650deg for 6 hours to burn out the soot. After re-fitting and clearing the fault code, it failed after 400 yds driving, so I changed the pressure transducer suspecting that to be at fault, (cow to get at!).
Nope, still going into limp mode.

Well, id had enough nonsense by now and have had the DPF software removed from my ECU for £270 by Devil Developments of Littlehampton. I made a stainless replacement pipe and replaced the wreched thing.

They are a pain in the backside, an example of automotive engineering at its worst. I'm sorry to say, for the automotive industry, its all about ticks in little boxes again, and the consumer has to pick up the tab when it all goes wrong.

Yes the car runs a lot better,
No it does not smoke,
Yes it will pass an MOT,
No it is not a legal requirement on an 07 plate vehicle,
Yes I am very pleased with the result, and refuse to pay an exorbitant price for a component that should not fail at 19000 miles.

They can stick their DPF's where the sun doesn't shine!!!!

there is some good information on wiki with some references in the article to the life of dpf filters

i have posted the link to assist you

Regarding DPF's and blocking.. had a chap in my Taxi who owns one of the new Jag XF (I think it is) which has a DPF.. he only dose about 4K miles a year, him being retired.

He had a warning light come on the dash and took it into the dealer.

They said his DPF was blocking up because he was driving too slow!

Their advice was to take it for a 20+ mile blast up the motorway once a month.

Since he has done this he has no problems any more! ;)

I like a cheap fix ;)

Regarding health issues.

My Father always stated that smoking did not by its self lead to Lung Cancer.. he sited research form Canada.. where there were no Lung Cancer deaths (even though a lot of the people in the country smoked) until Desiel Trains were put on their railways. (there were very few Desiel cars or trucks about in those days)

Apparently the incidence of Lung cancer needed a combined Smoking + Diesel and was proportional to the number of diesel vehicles / trains in Canada and of course the number of fags smoked.

My Father died aged 56 from heart problems caused by smoking.. which is a bit ironic!

But at least he did not get lung cancer!

Hi had work carried out on DPF filter by Fiat since done 200 miles and all going well:). Only one other thing, driving along the other day in the rain and for no apparent reason the drivers side wiper stopped working:mad:. Managed to get home and found wiper drive link assembly had fallen to bits, this is on a 07 Doblo not a1970 escort. Parts from Fiat expensive and have to buy complete unit. Managed to get parts off internet at WipeX realy recommend these people got parts next day and seem much better than originals also very easy to fit cost £29 every Doblo driver should keep a set just in case;)

Common fault mine had done the same when I got it.

It was held together with a large bulldog clip!
which just about sums up the servicing mine has had.
Going in for new alternator today. -£200 :(

Not everyone gets the parts next day. I had a MASSIVE wait for mine last December/January. The company is run by one bloke and he was on holiday. Best thing to do is to look at his listings on eBay as he puts a notice up when he goes away. I saw that after ordering directly from the Wipex website! :bang:

I've got the engine failure message again. It's running fine as before, just got the damn message! Taking it to a garage on Monday, hope it's just a case of another forced regen!

Honestly, get the dpf knocked out and the ECU reset and enjoy trouble free driving again.

I had a remap from Angel Tuning, knocked out the dpf and had an ECU reset at the same time. Worth every penny, I've only had my Doblo a couple of weeks but it makes sense to get rid of the problems before they start. I'll be getting the bits for the wipers next because they will fail sooner rather than later.
Brilliant little car, get on top of the niggles to make it perfect.

I've been having a think. I've had a few electrical niggles when starting the car recently. Things like ABS failure, oil temp exceeding maximum, oil pressure too low. All of these go away immediately.

The engine failure message came on when starting the car this time, not while driving like last time. I think I might have a bad battery, the little indicator ball on the battery is white - "refill fluid". Sound plausible?

Getting it checked on Monday, I'll probably get a regen done if the codes say so then a new battery I think. Any opinions?

Well, battery was knackered. I have a new battery and none of the random codes have come up. Going to get the ecu read and codes cleared at 2pm. Hopefully this has just been electrical gremlins!

Alas, my EGR is broken. (battery was broken too though) EGR is stuck closed. Fiat want £358 to fix. Booked in with an independant on Wednesday. Damn it! No Christmas for us then.

Hi all just not to put anyone off buying one of these siince having the the dpf cleaned and new wiper drive link replaced in Aug the car has been trouble free, with no issues what so ever.

:yeahthat:

The doblo is a wonderful car, I've even started a thread about how amazing it is before!

I have been reading all the threads on dpfs till my eyes have gone a bit funny. My doblo has just come back from Fiat having had a new dpf, airflow meter, and EGR valve fitted to name but a few. It is now working (today anyway) and Fiat did a forced regeneration then told me to take it out down the motorway about 40 miles.

I took it 40 miles at about 75 in 4th gear half the way vaguely looking for some sign that it had regenerated itself but none came. I have no idea whether it has regenerated naturally or whether I need to do it again. My question is how fast and how do I have to drive it down the motoroway to regenerate it, and how do I know?

I love my doblo, it's a van, carries loads of children or some children and lots of luggage, or just me and loads of stuff. I can't imagine a more versitile car/van. I did try to drive it efficiently (won't anymore) but what does that mean? Revving at the lights, driving up the motorway in 4th gear every week? I try not to do short journeys, but what is a short journey. I work 9 miles away and go in twice a week - sometimes have to do visits on the way. This probably isn't ideal but is it ok to drive like this as long as I do a 40 mile journey every week? Or should I just get rid of it? Or bypass the dpf?? Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

From what I understand, a 30 minute run on the motorway once a week and you should be fine. There are no guarantees though. 3k revs is commonly quoted for the motorway run but in mine that's 85 in 5th! The dpf just needs to get hot enough I think. Some have said the car runs a little rough when doing regen, I've noticed an associated drop in instant mpg read out on the dash. The key is to keep driving when you notice these things.

Mine showed these things on a long 60 mph max drive in the highlands a few weeks ago, so not always on the motorway!

Thanks, that does help. I'll try it and see what happens. Parts and labour guaranteed for 2 years from Fiat, so hopefully if the engine warning light does come on again I'll be ok - I've no money left! How about keeping the revvs up even on short journeys (I can't avoid all of them, I don't live in the country)?
