Technical disconnect EGR?

Hi,
I think that my 1.9 JTD (04 plate) has its EGR valve playing up. Is it a straightforward case of disconnecting the electrics to it to see if there is any improvement? Also if I do this do I get any warning lights / fault codes?

Ive heard of big improvements on a 1.9 bravo when it was removed after all its there for the emissions and just puts dirty air back in but its something id like to do when ive got time to research it more.
