Technical diesel flatspot

Evening all,posting on behalf of my (non pc) fishing partner.he has a 53plate stilo estate which every now and again takes it upon itself to only rev to about 3000rpm.I assume this to be limp mode. might i be correct in assuming the on board diagnostic will store this and be accessed by a code reader? does not seem to be any rhyme or reason for this but it can occur at awkward times ie on a roundabout etc. cure is generally foot flat on the deck and pray!! This has been known to do this for a 1/4 of a mile.Dealer trip or is there a common prob.many thanks .

I've got a similar problem myself is your car a ptrol or diesel ?

if diesel have a look at what i've done so far and still haven't cured it.

Sorry for delay mate,yes its a diesel.Bloody done it yesterday on the way to fishing.just seems like a major loss of power for a while.think he is going to a diagnostic man soon,will let you know.
