Whatever you do, don't mention series 3. I was roundly set upon for mentioning it and despite me dealing with Fiat direct rather than a franchise dealer the salesman was apparently a complete moron. So the elders and betters of the forum politely informed me!

What a bunch of fools. They own Magnetti Marelli! I'm going to walk to my car when I leave home, I. Collaboration with my legs.

jrkitching, when someone posts something which is a blatant lie then why do they deserve anything more than utter contempt? Babyferrari has an issue and is looking for any outlet possible for it and will even twist the truth if it suits his/her agenda.

This isn't a case of you say toe-may-toe I say to-mah-toe, someone made a claim which was false and it was pointed out.

From where I'm sitting, folks are just posting what they've been told by either their local dealership or by Fiat CS in their own country. There's no real consistency in the words being used to differentiate the latest models (which AIUI have at least the option of a TFT display & are homologated to Euro 6) from those that have gone before.

I'd agree it's confusing, but I don't see how arguing about semantics is going to help clarify anything when there's no consistency in the descriptions that are being used by the manufacturer and the dealerships.

Heck, most of this stuff has probably all been translated from Italian by folks who don't speak English as a first language.

I remember how difficult it was when buying my own 500 to find out what it would and wouldn't have - that was at the time of the 2010 model year revisions & it seemed for a while that no two supposedly identical cars were coming through the dealership with the same detailed specification. We didn't have any clear way of identifying the revised cars & folks were resorting to getting down on their hands & knees in the showroom to get a better look at the rear suspension.

There are so many variables and potential delays in the supply chain that, for example, a car delivered today in Australia is likely to have rolled off the line months before one delivered today in the UK. Comparing a car sold today in Sydney to one sold today in London is a minefield.

Surely it'd be better if we all tried to help each other work out what changes Fiat are actually making to the cars, rather than argue about how someone is trying to describe what's happening based on what they've been told by someone somewhere in the Fiat hierarchy?

That's my point, the dealers don't know what they're talking about a good deal of the time.

Like I have said time and time again if you feed people information which isn't right then this means that when they walk into a dealer asking about whether a used car is a series 2 or 3 car then they get strange looks or they get lied to.

Why is it that some people react so negatively when they get told that a dealer has given them false information?

All I want to do is make sure people have the right information. Educated people are less likely to get ripped off or sold a dud.

To be honest, after I got the so called series 3, I didn't spot any changes ( unless some of u can share done light)
The first thing I noticed was the seat cool our has changed, I initially ordered ivory and red, and without any notification until I picked up my new car last Sunday the seats are now grey, red on the side and white head cushions....

Upon psfiat request here's a photo of the fiat 500 pop the so called series 3 I've received Sunday ... But I can't noticed any significant difference ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1407372972.251733.jpg

I judge the "approximate" date my car was built by looking at the dates of the tires it came with. My car was probably built in July '10 (ordered it early June) and the tires that it came with were produced in June.

Re: Delivery Times and Order Status

My cars order status in the FIAT system says: 04-On Ship

However 04 does not tie in with previously mentioned order status numbers around here. If check the VIN against shipments at WW logistics it does not find a match.

Along with VIN, I have an order no, stock no, von no, ocf no and build date of 21/7. Anyone seen the status "04-On Ship" used before or have any thoughts as to why I cannot find my car in WW logistics. I suppose it could be getting shipped by another shipping line that is not searchable.

Sorry no idea ... I wasn't given any information apart from an approximate arrival date.

I think when I picked up my car late June, my sales guy may have actually have called it a Series 3... Oz only perhaps??

What a coincidence - had the TV on in the background and lo and behold up comes a new TV spot for the Fiat 500 Series 3! I'm sure it's on YouTube ...

The series 3 pop and sport were released to wholesalers in Aus on July 21st (it notes this on the pdf I attached but I had hidden it as it also contained email addresses around it). Not sure if you would have got a series 3 or not unless it was one under price protection?

I only recently purchased a Series 2 500s (at a "run out price") as the series 3 was on its way along with the series 3 price hike. The only real difference between the models in the sport was colour range and the TFT screen both of which did not interested us as we preferred the analog dials and wanted white.

I don't there there is any question thats there is not a series 3 :)

Same, I have a March '14 build S,
White with a sunroof and upgrade pack ...quite happy with the non TFT instrumentation ... Looks like the whole range has had a recent price bump...

Agreed. I have also acquired that bulletin elsewhere.
If you Google Fiat sincom numbers you will see the seventh digit represents the series.
model.configuation.series 150.091.3
As in 150 = Fiat 500, 091 = Lounge, 3 = series 3.

Unlike you blokes I rather like the TFT display, so am happy to wait for one :)

I remember reading somewhere else that the series part of Fiat sincom codes (the last digit) is numbered from zero - so surely that would make 150.091.3 a series 4 .

This link is in German, but would seem to confirm what I'm saying.

Whatever, I think we now have sufficient evidence to say that the latest 500's, at least in Australasia, are referred to as Series 3 models.

Not really......

http://www.fiat.at/at/CMSDE/Documents/PDF/Preislisten/Preisliste_500_500C.pdf

The code 091 doesn't match up to the lounge spec at all :)

http://www.fiat.co.uk/uk/publishingimages/price-list/fiat-cars-july-2014-price-list.pdf

in fact the codes aren't even the same between a 1.2 lounge in the UK and Austria.... or Austria and Hungary for that matter

http://www.fiat.hu/UserFiles/price list/03_500.pdf

Also, the model code for the 500 is 312 as you can see from the photo I've just taken.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_500_(2007)

The Panda sincom codes actually match up with the model
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Panda#Third_generation_.282011.E2.80.93present.29

But OK lets say for a moment the last digit indicates the series number....... How come the new shape Panda uses a 319.xxx.0 model code? Presumably this is the first series, like Jrkitching says 0 indicates the first iteration therefore current 500's would be series 4's.
