Hi all,

Advent 5401 just died on me. :cry: Press the power button and it does 1 long beep then 2 short beeps, indicating a GPU failure. I don't think I'll get it repaired so I'm looking for a replacement, something with decent performance to run;
Windows 7 Professional,
Adobe CS4,
Microsoft Office 2007,
A load of other bits and pieces.

It needs to have a VGA connector to connect to another monitor/tv/projector.

Looking to spend about £500 ish, any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,
Dom.

your laptop has nvidia 8400m graphics
it is a known faulty product
so when you bought your laptop it had the fault
so in theory you can request a repair from your supplier under the Sale of Goods Act

eg

http://www.nvidiadefect.com/advent-5401-from-pc-world-full-refund-obtained-t836.html

if you get a full refund then great,or even a part refund is better than what you have now

Oh right, I don't think I have the reciept though, does that matter?
Do I just phone the store and request it to be repaired?

lol its a bit more involved than that
did you buy it new?
did you buy it by card?
how old is it?

if you look on the 1st link i gave,it provides an email address for DSG
they are well aware of the fault so it will be of no surprise to them
so email them about the fault, mention the known fault of the 8400m and see what response you get

Bought new, by card, over 4 years old I think. I might just replace it anyway, get it fixed if I can then flog it.
