Got back an hour ago from Millway Coachworks in Andover, Hants and the Dastek Unichip was successfully fitted and tuned to my 1.8 in no less that 3 and a quarter hours :( What a wait!

Anyhoo, after many discussions I've had with numerous people and many threads I have seen on this forum about 1.8's not responding to things such as exhaust systems and induction kits etc...it's all bullshit :)

My first reading on the rolling road came out at...wait for it...not 113bhp...but...122bhp!
Thats a 1.8 Fiat Bravo with supersprint system, bmc cda induction kit and sportex de-cat...I thank you!

As you can see from the picture I am about to post up the power curve was **** poor but the chip has smoothed things out nicely and has taken my up to no less than 128bhp. I know this doesn't seem much but more (+6bhp) but it ain't about the peak power here. The 128bhp can now be reached 1000rpm lower than peak power could before, the torque has been hiked up to 128lb/ft and the power delivery it much much better in every gear, the car is a dream to drive now, I highly recommend one of these bad boys. At alot of points in the rpm range I have an extra 13bhp to play with!!! On average its about 10bhp all the way along.

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Glad to hear your chuffed with it!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

The more I think about it I don't see how it was even possible that Yogis only got 1.2bhp from a zorst system, manifold AND induction kit...he must have had the exhaust fitted backwards and a heater right next to a clogged up air filter in his engine bay! lol

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

If you dont mind me asking Dan, how much did the tuning time cost you? Cant have been cheap!

Ben.

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

No not at all, here's a break down of the cost involved to get one of these fitted.

£132 inc postage - Dastek Unichip (I only got it this cheap as it was 2nd hand used on an MR2 Turbo and a bargin on ebay!)

£11.75 - Dastek wiring harness
£70 - Fitting and configuration of Dastek Unichip to my car
£105 - Full mapping session on dyno

Total - £186.75 + VAT ---- £217.38

So all in all cost me £349.38...not too shabby IMO.

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Proves that each engine is different!

Well done and thanks for the figures. I'm glad your happy with it mate :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

No worries, here's the graph I'm sure you've all been dying to see :p

Damn it, it's come out all small and crappy for some reason.

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

I know little about rolling road setups but I suspect the explanation for the differences between this and Yogis' results will be down to two things.

Firstly the calibration of the rolling road machine will never be the same on two different machines. This is why you must get the initial test results as a base to work from. The 122 initial figure may have been 112 on a different machine.

Secondly are your figures bhp at the wheels or the flywheel? Rolling road machines IIRC measure one and estimate the other based on the measurements and the way the estimations are done varies.

Glad you've had good results from it though, I know my exhaust and induction kit have screwed with the power curve no end, it must be great to have it predictable again ;)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Sorry to **** on your bonfire, but the initial reading of 122 bhp just shows how poorly calibrated the rolling road was.

I used to have one of those little computery speedo things on my bike, with a sensor on the wheel to measure rpm. The first time i fitted it, it told me i was going 45mph. I wasn't, the computer just wasnt calibrated correctly, as was the case with the rolling road.

I dont doubt your car is nicer to drive now, with an extra 5bhp, but dont go thinking you are pushing 130 horses, cos chances are you're not :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Jon what are you on about mate? We are talking about a Toyota/Lexus specialist tuning company here, not cheap gadgets on a push bike!
All of the figure make complete sense, why wouldn't a 1.8 be pushing out 128bhp with what I have done to it?!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Need a bigger picture of the graph. From what I can see though the 122BHP is a very small peak which sorta makes it a bit of a false figure. You can see the after curve is alot smoother.

As Brakka said the readings from machine to machine vary, the flywheel BHP is estimated from the wheel BHP and many things can change the factor between wheel and flywheel figures. Tyre pressure being quite a big one.

This is why I said get a before and after figure for comparison. Which you did :)

Do you know the wheel BHP figures?

But then w*nking over a single peak power figure is a bit silly really, what matters is the fact your ENTIRE torque curve went up A LOT! Now thats good and thats why the power is smoother.

I wasn't too far off with my 10-12BHP increase now was I :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

hi, i dont know anything about chips etc, but would spending all this money make this car a nicer quicker drive than a hgt or would the money be better of spent on just buying a hgt in the first place with 154 bhp?

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

For some reason I can't seem to sort out a bigger picture of this damn graph, I'm setting the scanner up properly but when I upload it to fotango it's being displayed small :(

I don't know the wheel figures I'm afraid Tom, it's true what you say though, I couldn't care less about the peak power anyway, it's the torque curve I was most pleased by, the technician said he was impressed by the amount he had improved it!!! :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

You're only 11 lbft behind the HGT155 on torque as is ;)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Muhahahahaha...manifold and cams next, watch out HGT owners, especially Paul ;)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Hehe! Big power gains there! 150 easy. What did surprise me a bit about Yoggis' curves is the cams did not loose any bottom end, he gained bottom end. C&B must have put some good development time into them.

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

What out Paul!!!! :)

ask ash about my HGT! he couldnt believe the pock it had yesterday, i will have to take you out Danz when you come over!!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Boys boys boys.

When Lozz's JTD is remapped, you'll be left crying. Beaten by an oil burner.

Ah well.

Joske (JTD owner)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Yeh yeh yeh, I know. Just you wait. Anyway, you ain't felt poke until you've driven a near enough 300bhp bravo like meeee, nur nur :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

300bhp!! what car was that? sounds sweet
