Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

There's nothing this little beauty hasn't got...check out the end of this email from Paul Wilkins...he's the nice Dastek guru in the uk:

"The Unichip offers more than just timing and fuel adjustments, we can do more
than most sub £1000 race ecu's (this is ECU only, not including mapping costs!),
such as launch control, shift lights, variable cam control, full throttle gear
changes, nitrous control, ignition correction when nitrous is activated, etc..

The UNICHIP can be used for the following functions:
Alter ignition timing in a 3D map down to 0.1degree resolution.
Alter fuel mixture in a 3D map by +-50%.
Control variable valve timing.
Control variable induction systems.
Control turbo wastegate solenoid systems.
Record maximum boost pressure.
Record maximum RPM.
Water injection control.
Nitrous oxide control.
Automatic secondary map when water or nitrous is active.
Automatic switch back to primary map when water or nitrous is low or
de-activated
Road speed governor delimiting.
Calibration of electronic speedometers.
Conversion of electronic speedometers from KMH to MPH.
Drive additional fuel injectors, with variable blend control.
Launch control.
Full throttle gear changes.
Idle speed stabilization.
Conversion to individual throttle bodies on certain cars.
Conversion of mechanical injection systems to full 3D fuel & ignition control.
Conversion from flap type Air Flow meters to less restrictive Hot Film meters.
Multiple maps to suit different fuels.
Shift lights
Alter or implement rev limits
Alter or implement boost limits"

CRAZY!!!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Some of those features can't be done together though.

You can do water injection OR nitrous control, not both. Launch control and shift-no-lift work the same way :)

Still, good little box and you got a bargin!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Thats done it... I'm getting one. Been thinking about it for ages. Small bhp increase but much better power curve and more torque (my third gear is rubbish) plus nitrous control!

Need to enquire how it manages nitrous as I have a progressive controller to do that. I like the idea of a second map thats used while nitrous is running as well.

And launch control?! NOS off the line :) Sweet

Dan

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

The launch control just limits the revs when the clutch is in, its not that fancy :)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Looks like you gained overall BUT ( me not knowing much about these things ! ) , how much could alfanige have got for the money you spent ? ( curious )

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

I take it that means he can do nothing with the hlx then ( BUGGER , picking one up tomorrow ! )

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Andy - TRUST ME I explored that option first! I was begging Nige to get the equipment to do the 1.8's but he didn't have enough interest to make it worth his while splashing out the dosh for it.

Dan - it isn't about maximum bhp at all in this application...purely torque curve and smoothness of the power delivery, both of which get improved ten fold. Go for the newer green Unichip not the old pink/red one's and you'll need a version A chip btw, anything else will not be able to communicate to your car's ecu ;)

I'm going to go for full throttle gear changes when I take it back after cams and manifold get fitted...whoooosh!

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

Hehe! You've discovered torque ;)

Re: Dastek Unichip fitted...results...

I'll see what the 1.8 feels like compared to my old 1.6 when i get it and maybe get something done later , i've just consoled myself by sniping a set of those heater control surrounds off ebay from that coupe bloke ;)

Fuel on the fire

I aint concerned really with what I know so little about. So long as my lil mule has a healthy kick when I ask her (and she does :) ) I'm happy. I was curious though, as I had never had a rolling road done, so after my new exhaust went on I searched out the nearest guy who all the local dealerships use, and this was the result of a swop one straight after the other. You are are all so hotly debating Dannys little pic, I couldn't resist putting mine up again - long groan from Tom ;) (+made it a bit clearer for you). My Viperrs on since this was done, and that made heaps of difference, but I duno if I can be arsed to get another done just to amuse you all ;)

Re: Fuel on the fire

Evenin Tom :)
Yes but high revs for me is anything above three grand remember ;) (and I'm sure my viper helped even out any dips) It was struggling again to top 90 in third before I cleaned that filter. Now I dare not push her as far as she wants me to ;) :)

Re: Fuel on the fire

Wuss ;) Blocked filters help no-one, keep em CLEAN! :)
