They're probably the best bet but I'll have to live with the 286s, (if they ever come in the post), no point waisting more money just for slightly brighter dials, i dont want a lot of glare anyway.

My camera won't even shop up the glow very well so pics don't do it just, the glow is very dull which makes it hard for the camera to shop up but at the same time it over compensates on the switch leds that are very bright.

I wonder if Mase can confirm if the Ebay guy's speedo bulbs are like this?

Liam

hey boys, sorry ive not been keepin up with this thread, been busy at work.

you guys still havin problems?

ill post u link to the exact bulbs i used in mine, and a pic showing all my handy work as well!

there are 5 bulbs behind the speedo, however, only 4 need changing as 1 is for the petrol warning light, so can be left alone as the colour of that isnt important.

now, the bulbs behind the dials are these ones: http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=872&osCsid=118a6fc5e720dc6424fe7c0f3f1f278d type 286, in blue, however on these, the plastic hosing below the clear led bit needs filing down as they dont fit back inside the dials, u just pull the old bulb out of the black holder, and push these in! note that if they dont work first time then take the bulb out, twist it 180 degrees and refit, as LEDS have to be in a specific way in order to work.

liam: the guy on ebay sells bulbs which are EXACTLY the same as these, but they have a smaller plastic housing so fit perfectly and do not need filing down!

the leds in the switches in the center (rear wiper, wear washer, hazard warning light, headlight etc. etc.) just require normal 3mm LEDS, i have these ones in mine http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?MenuNo=316&MenuName=3mm%2012V%20Standard%20LEDs&FromMenu=y&criteria=3mm%2012V%20Standard%20LEDs&doy=20m4&worldid=3 they are 12v LEDS, so do not need a resistor as they have 1 built in.... the only problem here is that the headlight switch (for cinq that dont have the sei steering coloum) had a soldered LED, so the old one will need to be cut out, i havent soldered 1 back in as i cant solder haha.

now.... window switches and heater controls!!! these use the exact same bulbs as the dials, so again will need the hosing filing down, unless u buy from the ebay guy cause his fit straight in here as well!

the clock is a royal pain in the ass, ive done mine 3 times and think ive finally sorted it!

liam again: that link u posted for the 509T bulb is the buld that is in the clock, it is different to all the other bulbs on the cinq dash.... however, i bought 1 from ultraleds and it didnt fit at all, i filed it down loads, and actually broke one of the metal bits on the side trying to get it to fit!

so you have 2 choices, either take the clock apart and you will come across a small bit of green plastic card stuff, you can replace that with a few bits of acetate to change the colour, or mission it like i have to change the bulb, i can run you through how i did that, but it might take a while....

and finally... here is wat my dash looks like, who needs plasma dials when it looks this good! :worship: :worship: :worship:

the heater controls do show up better than that, but its quite light now, but u get the idea

My glow on the dials is much poorer than that Mase, not too happy with it that's why I wondered if the 509T would be better.

It must be the housing in those 286's that limit the spread of light.

I'll have a go at the clock, mines is kinda buggered already so no problems if I break it some more! LOL

Liam

Ive done the clock with red acetate, took 5 mins and I'm always looking at it now because I love its Red glow, you see I'm doing a whole red dash illumintation not blue like others on here have. My 286's have finally come from ultraleds and I ordered 8 and got sent 10 (y) so i can go wrong twice now!

Just had a thought on this, for the clock illumination you could use the lenses from 3D glasses if you can find any that is and then you will have the choice of blue or red!

lol true true. I used a coloured filter from my mates strobe light, just swapped it for an mp3 cd to keep him cool about it. As for the dials  I'm ending up making new dials so I can have Red illumination, same for heater controls because I messed them up :( . But those 286's do give off a pretty poor light pool.

I've done the dash yeah, I was uber tired and ordered the wrong switch leds so they are white :bang: dumbass.

I haven't finshed it yet I still have the clock to do plus some fiddling.

Mase, did you take the bit of green plastic/card out of the back of your clock? I'm waiting to get my bulbs to see if I prefer it with or without, but was wondering what you had done. Also, how did you access the back of the speedo etc? On mine there is sonething attached to the back of it preventing me from getting at it.

The whole thing looks great btw!

Al.

Theres a member called 'renman' who sells coloured kits for sei speedo, maybe the dash as well? At least worth an ask on how its done.
