I recently got my front two tyres replaced and the guy fitting them said that a couple of the wheel nuts were damaged. 3 out of 4 bolts are currently in the wheel and the one I have in my hand is quite badly stripped in the threading. So my question is, would I need to buy new bolts and nuts or just bolts and how easy are they to fit/where can I find them?

From brief googleing it seems as if for most wheels you put the wheel nut on the wheel whereas with mine you have to screw the bolt into the wheel. Any help would be appreciated, cheers!

Right, the question now is what state are the threads in the hub? Take the wheel off and have a look, try to screw a good bolt gently into the hole. If that seems OK them you just need a new bolt try a scrapyard or one of the many e-bay auctions for wheel bolt only! If the threads are u/s you need to try retapping them, either with another wheel bolt with a couple of flats ground at right angles to the end or a proper tap. If none of this does the trick then you need a new hub & wheel bearing of a second hand hub from a breakers.

Put you screw into the hub
U beed to find out what state the hub is in

I bet the guy did it but no proof

If hub is okay jusy a new bolt is needed
If hub is toast then you need a hub and bolt and labour

if guy did it he would have gunned them up and kept his gob shut

you have plenty to learn Hiawatha

Alright guys, cheers for the responses. I got 2 new bolts from a breakers and one of them fits whereas the other one spins endlessly (threading is messed I guess). But, it feels a lot safer with 3/4 bolts... The only problem now is that the car makes a clicking sound when turning (right I think...). Sounds dodgy but could just be unrelated as the car is getting old now. Also I put the bolts in when the car was not jacked, not sure if that would matter.

11.20 from shop4parts for a new one - not original, but shop4parts only do quality parts

http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=details&ProdId=634&sku=30666

its the labour of having the hub unit out to replace the hub face
Risk of damaging bearing possibly too

But 3 out of 4 bolts isn't safe
The wheel isn't Fully secured

Its like running with your shoe laces untied, yeah its fine for a get to bottom of garden, but wouldnt go running would you?
