Robot - I'm hungarian too by the way:) Well, I don't have the matching driving style but crashed anyways. :bang: Bad luck I guess.

If we look at B owner crash statistics by nation I think we Hungarians are at the bottom, though...

You one of the minorities stuck in Slovakia after the World Wars?

kolbaszes..mmmm....
i have to agree that the best kolbaszes are in Hungary. :yum:

when i was living in this stripclub, one of the hungarian girls that worked there got hold of them on a regular basis
not too bad, but a bit too chewy for my taste, and i always assumed they were made with donkey...
but i stand corrected, now that i made the efford in looking them up :)

Stripclub and kolbasz? :))) LOL:)

Anyways. Yes robot: I'm hungarian, kinda stuck here. But hey, it's my home - and now that both countries are in the EU, it does not make any difference.

Well, no red barch definetely. Have to cool down before making rushed decisions. Hopefully I can return here as an active member. This was a very unpleasant introduction, gotta tell.

I dunno. After seeng the b's remaiins on monday I was thinking that maybe it would be better not to drive around in a soft-top for obvious safety reasons -

Not so sure mate as the car did save you in a bad crash (y) so it can't be that bad.

I found driving in Budapest quite relaxing but when I got lost I think I was worse than any of the locals I saw

Alan: well you'r right - the b saved me. Well actually if you think about it, no car is really safe - this was a favorable way of totallying a car. (I mean without getting hurt.)

I saw a two b-s for sale today. But they were not really appealing: considering the condition/price ratio. Oh well. More details tomorrow.

Ok, so as I told earlier - I saw two barchetta's yesterday. These were the ones:

http://www.autovia.sk/jazdene-auto-fiat-barchetta-1.8-16v-500958

I saw the first one the 3rd time this year. Every time with different dealer, the same exact car:) Anyways - neither of the cars was in the technical and cosmetic condition I expected. The worst thing that the car dealers are really unreliable - neither of the cars had the advertised miles (km's for me;) run, they were pushy and told stupidities about the vehicles.(n)
Neither of them was even worth starting up and taking them for a round. Now I saw about 10 barchettas, and none of them were (altogether) in a condition like poor #7985:bang:

Take your time mate, eventually you'll find the right one (y)

(Note I didn't take my own advice and bought my B off eBay without even seeing it in person )

Jiggy - well, every b is great in it's own way:) Maybe you just need to put a little more time and effort to make it even better:)
The only thing is that you try to maximize the value for the given amount of money. Due to the local mentality of car dealers (not only them) is kinda hard to find a honest offer...

What about looking further afield? Take a short break in Germany and see if you can pick a better one up there, more there than in any other European country.

It took me about 6 or 8 weeks to find my car, I looked at a lot that were either VERY overpriced for what they were or were dog's, persistence will pay off my friend!

At least I know what too look for inthe next one, although still "grieving" poor #7985:bang:

Tomorrow I should check out a possible good one... This is not a dealer but a private person. Will see what is it about tomorrow.

LRB: Yeah, Germany has half of the barchettas ever made - so that is the largest available market. Unfortunately I'm not really experienced in importing a car to my country. I know it's not brain surgery, but still. As far as I know all the diferent registration fees, including travel costs and whatnot when making an import into Slovakia are around the equivalent of ~600-800 pounds, which is another reason to check the ones already available around...

Sorry to hear about this, was a great looking car.
Glad to hear your sticking with the b and on the look out for a new 1, good luck with your search and keep us all posted(y)

Its still a very bad feeling to think about it. Not just because of the car but... hope not to experience ever again...

Yes, will keep posted about the search for good b's - after this was not the car's fault. Fortunately I'm in a situation where I have this option. Mainly because I'm young, no one depends on me. (no spouse/kids etc) So after the shock its "me time" again. I guess. Will see tomorrow;)

Ok, so I promised an update. I saw the red b yesterday. (linked to the ad in the previous posts) I had big expectations - since this b was newer and with fewer kilometres than the one's I saw already...
I was greatly disappointed as the b was not really taken care of. It has numerous little dents, lots of stone chips and the paint was faded. The motor was dirty, it had signs of oil leakage at the bottom. The front bumper was weirdly misaligned and the back had a big old crack. The hood opening mechanism was damaged.... etc.. ;( (n)

After seeing those b's in bad conditions I'm even more sorry for the old one I crashed with... :bang:

Yep it's hard to find a good B now let alone getting hold of a mint one. After spending a load of time working under and inside my B's wings, doors, petrol tank area and places you dont see everyday I warn you all to take some time to check out whats going on under the skin of you B. I have seen a load of places that mounts are rusting and starting to take the body with them, Eg rear heat shield exhaust mounts.

Doc Prophet of doom! Think I'll keep mine under its cover so wont be able to see it crusting away before me. Given the recent snow here, no way taking it onto the salty roads.

Mebbe next month!

Meanwhile running my "new" Marea Weekend 1.8, 2000/W bought at auction for £750. Good deal, and not half as crap a car as the motoring press would have you believe.

Which leads me onto a thread I'll start......
