Coronavirus - The Thread :(

All the info I’m getting id say it will be at the very least, Christmas, things won’t be back to normal this year

I guess I don't know what Taiwan considers "normal enough", but the fact they have kept the virus pretty much out the country, mean I doubt they will want to even risk 1 needless case getting it. I can understand that, it's just not great for me.

I had been thinking about heading to another country for a bit, one deemed safer (and therefore maybe easier to jump back into Taiwan from) - but part of me thinks that's not a certainty either (plus I'd then be paying rent in two countries!), so why delay the inevitable.

They say home is where you lay your hat - I disagree, it's where you put your cat. And he lives here in Taiwan, therefore I must too :ROFLMAO:

Oh well,

So that was the much awaited announcement by Boris !!

As clear as thick mud, again...........Suppose if you don`t make things clear then you avoid any blame.

Never mind. Wee Jimmy here has told us ..... Stay at home FULL STOP !!!!

I am desperate for clarification about how tradesmen like myself are going to be able to work in occupied houses again, along with other trades such as a plumber and sparky etc all working in the same kitchen or bathroom say.

The bit about construction always seems to be about big sites where controls can be a lot easier managed. Not saying it is easy but EASIER.

Any longer and I won`t want to go back to work.......................................
Just keep TWO METERS APART like I have been doing throughout all of this.....I have been working as normal in fact really busy as there are a load of skivers who would rather stay at home to get free money

place your bets, what is the r number, new case number and deaths going to be this time next week? with many people expected to all go to the same places his weekend.

There was an ice ream van parked up serving on the local evening news tonight. i didn't know they were allowed to start trading again, at the start of lockdown they were warned the loss of licences if they traded.
tonight's news there was a doughnut hut opening on a seafront.

Its utterly moronic that BoJo is actively washing his hands and effectively forcing so many folk in England back to work, before this is all over. The R is already on the increase apparently

Whatever your view on our devolved Parliament, I'm so glad our First Minister said Lockdown will last another 3 weeks. My girlfriend had the virus, its utterly horrible and we're reasonably lucky in that shes recovering. But thats the thing, she has asthma and we went into self isolation a week before lockdown and she STILL hasn't recovered fully. I know families who've been much less fortunate...

So what's the word on the street when the lockdown might be removed / plans for everything to be back to normal?

I've been running around different offices all day to try and find out what options I have, but without getting a number of documents sent from the UK (from offices which are currently closed) - it looks like I will have to leave here when my visa is up in July.

That's not too bad, I'm due a trip home anyway - but the bad bad bad news is I won't be allowed back into Taiwan until the UK is deemed as safe....

I understand that now, entering this country you will be expected to self-isolate for a fortnight. Not sure if that's at your own home, or if the authorities will incarcerate you in an army camp somewhere.

Not surprising. BoJo said we could go to work if not possible to work from home, AND that we could practice distancing while at work. This was however restricted to certain industries. I guess there might be a list hiding on a website somewhere.
Immediately, lots of people went out. Traffic over the last few days has been increasing significantly, and in places is almost back to normal. Lots more pedestrians, all passing close to each other and the supermarket yesterday was very busy. I think the guy on the door counting us in perhaps failed basic maths.

At least some good news. Aparently, in Oxford, tests of a potential vaccine are going well.

There may well be other bulletins, but I stumbled across that one.
At least the monkeys will be safe, and can rule the world after we're all gone. Expect protesters outside the labs in Oxford, all 2m apart of course.

You only have to think about the likely congestion Tube & London buses and how busy they were going to be to realise it was a completely daft idea to start easing lockdown so soon.

The whole "Stay A Lert" message has caused NOTHING but confusion. Which is what they wanted. Lets shift the blame from Government onto the public. "You can visit one member of your family if you meet under a tree on a cloudy day while looking up at the sky" - it was only ever going to do one thing, let people think what they like about lockdown and absolve Downing St of any blame for further loss of life when this peaks again (which it almost certainly will, sadly) Mission achieved.

Notice the Government tone has already shifted ie "You have a civic duty to avoid using public transport" - how the hell can anyone in London get to work by avoiding public transport?

I know the world can't stay closed forever, but this has been cack handed from start to finish. Should there be an investigation into this whole herd immunity BS? Definitely. But of course, there won't be.

I am going to get punched soon i think, I seem to be the only one trying to enforce the one way system in our supermarket.
Some say sorry but some want to argue about it or try to use the excuse they missed what they wanted so had to go back.:bang: if that happens you have to go around again.
The worse offenders seem to be the mask wearers too, like a mask means no need to social distance :(

Ah but remember Mask = Safe.

I HATE going shopping just now. Not for the queuing or 2m distance either, I'm fine with that, its the utter mutants who wander about without a care in the world. Had folk literally leaning over my shoulder for some bloody broccoli yesterday.

I mean, broccoli...really?! :bang:

I'll try Bernie...

Thanks for the nice flash-back Jock !!

Just a comment about the Ariel vs the Honda's sounds: Ariel being a two strokes engine has a power stroke every 360° of crankshaft rotation, both pistons being at the same angular position, we got two explosions at the same time. If I'm not wrong, the Honda was a four strokes engine, this combined with the 180° pistons offset gave the 1,2, pause sound. Would the Honda been a two strokes engine its sound would have been an even 1,2,1,2,1,2 at double the frequency of the Ariel ... (one explosion every 180°).
I can't see any advantage of the Ariel setup: a "180°" two strokes-two cylinders engine is nicely balanced with one piston in power stroke helping the other @ compression stroke, and vice versa, while the Ariel's 360° (or 0°) has to use the inertia to compress the mixture... and shake the all thing !
The only thing I can think of is the simplier crankshaft machining and therefore cost ...

Best regards, Bernard.

Hi Fellas, Not going to get involved in the tech' of engines, however my best MB from years and years ago was a Francis Barnett 250 Cruiser....powered by a Villiers Twin 250cc 2-stroke..............it was a dream machine, so smooth and responsive, with twin plumes of blue wisp'ish smoke visible in the mirrors one each side from the exhaust.........just wish I still had it. Cheers Qube O.

You must wear a face mask properly of it has a negative affect

That's been the rule out here in Asia since forever.

I know a lot of you guys have been pushing for it before (as well as closing the airports) - but actually it takes a huge amount of resources to manage such a thing.

If you quarantine in a government provided facility here (which just means a local hotel that has been set up for the purpose) then that's simple enough, but if you go for home quarantine then:

1) You have to give your mobile phone number which WILL BE TRACKED 24/7 (I'm guessing people afraid of big brother won't like this)
2) If your phone leaves the house, they send the police over to arrest you.
3) If your phone doesn't leave the house, but doesn't move either, they will call you - if you don't pick up, they send the police to your house.
4) They will send you text messages at random times of the day, if you don't reply... well, you can guess :D
5) Obviously you can't go out, so you need to order all your food in - if you aren't able to do this, then food packages will be brought to you.

Taiwan has a small population and not many people really travelled, so it was quite easy to manage. But I can see how with a population size such as that of the UK and the freedom of movement between EU places, there would be masses of amounts of people to try and monitor...

Perhaps being the proud owner of this piece of "tech"

absolves me from the requirement to register? - don't think it could do it?
