General COOLANT LEAK

I have a friend with a 2014 500L with 1.4L turbo. She had t-stat replaced last year & now has a leak. I opened the hood & removed the engine cover, and there is coolant all over the left side of the engine (trans bellhousing?). also on the plastic, I would guess cooling rail, at the back by the firewall. I am no stranger to cars but am a stranger to FIAT. do these have a metal or plastic T-STAT housing? Where are the most common leak spots? Her coolant reservoir has the small plastic pressure cap, and it looks like someone has put a lot of Barr's leak in the system, as the reservoir has a very distinct copper color. She has been adding coolant when she drives it, & i checked it today, put less than a quart of coolant in and ran it for 20-30 mins and couldn't see any leaks. She doesn't have a ton of $$$ to put it in the shop, so I am trying to figure it out for her & just need some pointers or things I can look for before I remove the battery & mount. I really appreciate any guidance. I am not sure how many miles are on the car, but I would guess close to 200K.
