can anybody recommend a good spy/adware to free download? iam getting lots of attacks and i keep having to clean my computer with my spyware stormer.any ways of closing the portal they have found? sorry i am old school and pretty naf with PC's.btw,have norton 2005 antivirus .:)

Sygate or AVG,I prefer AVG as updated every few days.

I got rid of Nortons,played havoc with downloads & general 'surfing' even though it was free one year trial,not for me! I use Zone alarm insteard.

Sorry your right.....got mixed up:eek:

AVG as anti-virus,Zone alarm as firewall......glad somebody is awake(y)

Doesn't XP have it's own firewall.....thing?

;) yeah windows xp SP2 has, but i don't recommend it, makes online gaming lag and all sorts of issues, also, zonealarm latest release fixes it's p2p issues, except for azerous (or whatever it's called) which aint really p2p aniways its torrent. Alternativly, use bitcomet which has no issues with latest zonealarm :worship:

I use Ad Aware for spyware, Zone Alarm as firewall, and McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise (which is normally very expensive, but I have my sources... ). I also use WinPatrol to stop programs from adding themselves to startup.

fckuing hell,iam all confused.can we have a vote on which is best then? and are they all free down loads/ and do i have to delete the xp2 firewall?and norton?

DO NOT USE MCAFEE OR NORTON they do more damage than repair...

And sumplug, here is what you need to get, and it's all free:

AVG = Antivirus.
Ad Aware = Anti adware and spyware.
Zonealarm = Firewall
Registry Mechanic (just get the activation code from www.serials.ws) = Will keep your registry clean.

thanks for that.btw,are you practicing your best yank accent:D

get spybot and adaware they find different things.

AVG is alright but to be honest i have yet to find a virus scanner that works brilliantly. firewalls theres a few that are decent but again if you got the cash i recommend getting a router with a decent hardware firewall built in. What i use and dont have any problems admittedly its a little bit more complicated to set up.

And if your still using internet explorer stop using it now. Thats where most of your problems with adware are coming from the fact its the worst browser for it due to it being so popular and so insecure the majority of spyware is designed to affect IE mainly so get something like opera or firefox. And you will find your spyware infections drop massively.

Another good thing to run, apart from Adaware and Spybot, is CWShredder.

Stick with Norton, even the best antispyware programs are only able to remove about 70% of infections so you'll be alright with Norton.

And run an online scan too, so you can see if your antivirus has been corrupted. I like Panda Activescan.

Being as I work in IT as a network person....

Get a Hardware Firewall... You don't need zonealarm then... Also it will have an integral switch so you can connect more than one thing to t'internet

Get a decent Virus Scanner... AVG seems to be popular...

Web Based email helps a lot as Yahoo and Hotmail will virus scan all attachments before letting them near your machine

The above link is pure class. Ever wanted to see what you PC is connected to and what is connected to it via the internet ?

Oh and Microsoft Anyspyware, which is a free download is also usefull. Stops all sorts of things installing themselves....
